Aaalrighty folks! Today marks the beginning of a month-long painting comp held by my local GW. We started with a sack full of the plastic character packs. IIRC there was one from each faction (both 40k and AoS) plus some more marines. I was hoping for one of the marines or perhaps an assassin although as it happened I drew the Gutrot Spume model. Actually should be a really nice model to paint up

That being said, I have little use for an AoS nurgle character and so here comes my endeavour to "40k-ify" him. There are prizes for the best conversion as well as painting so I intend on turning him into a CSM termi lord (perhaps even Typhus). With the Gutrot model being as complicated as it is, this is going to be a rather involved conversion. I plan to replace the front of the mini with a termi torso from the DWK/termi kit (the one with the built in hooded head and half mask). This will require me to cut away most of the mini's side and front (in order to keep the right shoulder in tact), and I will also need to nurgle up the DA robes and shave away the two knives.

All that will come later in more detail however as I'm not entirle ysure how I'm going to go about it. I haven't even got to thinking about the arms yet
Anyway here's a quick photoshop of the initial concept; let me know what you think!

This is going to be interesting indeed, and the two parts you photoshopped look like they are going to work nicely.
Based on that picture, I think that what will need attention now is the terminator part just behind the head, that should be aligned witht the plaguelord's shoulders, and not with the head as it looks on the picture.

This has definite potential, I'll be looking !

Yes in the image the angles do look a bit off but irl it looks like it'll line up well. Will certainly make sure it does when I get to carving up the plastic. Should be making some progress later today.

Thanks for the response!

Spent an inordinate amount of time carving up plastic yesterday, and managed to make a fair bit of progress on the composition front too. On the scraping front I remove a large chunk from the terminator torso so that the Nurgle "brooch" would fit flush(er) with the armour rather than just sit on top and stick out like a sore thumb. The knives got scraped off the belt, and the cloth got "nurgled" a bit (though more progress is needed there). I also had to chop up the original Spume model in order to fit the termi torso in. Most notably I cut the shoulder and the brooch away from the front or the torso and remove the original left hand side and neck of the model, reattaching the tentacle afterwards - there's no going back now

In regards to composition, I decided on the mace from the DW kit to replace the original model's axe. I also picked out a terminator arm from my bits box at random just to see how it would look. Turned out to be the GK one with "death" engraved on the elbow. How fitting So I cut off its shoulder (though it needs trimming down further). Finally while rummaging around in my bits box I came across the cloak from the CSM termi lord kit and think it works amazingly on the model. The little exhausts that piece have will also help to 40k-ify him a little more.

Anyway, here's how he stands atm all blu tacked up (god I wish there was something that held better than blu tack):

That last image shows where I'll be putting the little maw that usually goes on the Gutrot's left side. It should help close the gap between the termi torso and the energy pack that's a part of the cloak piece. There are a LOT of gaps that will need filling

Edit: forgot to mention, I'm having trouble working out what to do with the terminator torso's belt piece as it's well of centre for this model. Don't see an immediate fix so any ideas would be much appreciated.

Feedback always welcome, let me know what you think!

it certainly looks like it fits, but yeah you are going to have a lot of filling to do. As for the belt, it depends on your gree stuff confidence or the parts you have laying around. Personally I would sand the current belt back as it is and put a new buckle with a greenstuffed belt.

It's looking very nice so far. The Mace arm looks disproportionately long at present, but I guess there's the opportunity to cut it down and align the parts.

I agree with Eccentricnormality with regard to the belt.

@Eccentricnormality: I too think this is the way I'm going to have to go. I'm not hugely confident in my GS skills but we'll see how it goes. Have to improve somehow right!

@Azazelx: You're right about the arm and I spent this morning carving it down to the elbow. It looks better now, just need to work on integrating it into the existing shoulder so that it looks a little less out of place.

@EDC: Welcome abord!

Only progress today was the work on the mace arm so no pics really worth sharing. Am lowkey avoiding work on the belt piece as it's a little daunting Will see what other progress I can make in the meantime
