Subject: Resin vs Metal?

The Last Chancer Who Survived

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion of resin or metal minis? We're using metal now, but I've been looking into a few resin companies like Valiant and others. Since I usually do a small amount of minis, I'll be able to save a bit on mold costs.. so I've been thinking of switching for the new sculpts.I was also planning to start making my own resin molds & minis eventually, but right now I don't have the equipment or skills just yet. So what do you think? Do you prefer metal minis or do you like resin too?

Metal is preferred, but honestly either is fine. For assembly purposes, like resin. For durability and painting. I prefer metal.

Resin all the way, I hate metal. Harder to assembled and harder to paint... no thanks! lol

It depends. For models with lots of lengthy bits (think pikemen of Dol Amroth), the metal gives a much needed durability, and makes it much less prone to breaking. Any bending is also easily done without needing to submerge it in hot water. As a caster, metal is preferable from a mass production perspective as well, because any wastage can be reused and spin casting is quicker than resin casting.
On the flip side, I've always thought resin held detail slightly better than metal, and nobody wants a full army of heavy painted metal to lug about. Metal is also much more prone to having the paint chip and scratch, even when sealed.

Resin bodies
Metal swords and spears
because fiddly bits that are prone to breaking should be in metal.

I'm all about metal. The heft, the weight keeps the miniatures on the tabletop.
For fantasy / WFB i don't mind plastic rank & file miniatures but metal is old-school so therefore a must-have for command
