Subject: Using plastic mold stuff to copy helms and swords

Hey guys. Can someone give me some tips on using the plastic mold stuff to make copies of unique bits such as helms and some swords for 40K? I can do the basic stuff but it usually comes out off center or just wrong. I use clamps to hold the pieces together and put holes in it to keep them bottom and top aligned. I cant figure out whats happening.

Too much pressure is a thing. Instamold is much better at press molding than it is at two part molds, or rather it is a lot easier to do.
The easiest way around it is to overstuff the mold and deal with the mold line repair. Easier to fix that than a thin object

Q: Is it okay to talk about or show pictures of recasted models?
A: The owners of this site do not personally believe that recasting copyrighted models without the copyright holder’s consent (henceforth referred to as 'unauthorized recasting') to be an acceptable practice. Therefore, as both legal protection for the site and also due to that personal preference, it is imperative that Dakka not be used as a means to promote the concept, process and/or sale of unauthorized recasts, and any forum threads, articles and/or gallery pictures breaking this guideline may be locked or removed without warning.
To provide some further clarification on what is acceptable/unacceptable:
• Posting the names of individuals or sites explicitly known to deal in unauthorized recasting (including yourself) is prohibited, including links to those individuals or sites. Questions asking for this type of information are also prohibited.
• Tutorials about how to perform unauthorized recasting are prohibited, as are questions asking for tutorials about how to perform unauthorized recasting. General tutorials/articles on casting and recasting items created by the author of the tutorial/article are perfectly fine, as long as the item being cast does not infringe on clearly known intellectual property. So for example, it is not okay to post a tutorial showing how to cast/recast a Games Workshop Space Marine's Bolter (even if you sculpted it yourself), but it is fine to post a tutorial/article showing how to cast/recast a rifle of your own design.
• Articles/forum threads that serve as a means to promote and/or help normalize the concept of unauthorized recasting will be locked or deleted. This is a difficult guideline to precisely define, and its enforcement is handled on a case-by-base basis, rather than a strict set of rules to follow. Generally, it is permissible to talk about the concept of unauthorized recasting and even voice your opinion on whether you think it is morally wrong or right. However, the moment the conversation/article turns into a vehicle to promote unauthorized recasting, it becomes inappropriate, such as when suggesting to other users that they should consider purchasing unauthorized recasts.
• Pictures of models that may or may not be recasts are fine to post/put into the Dakka gallery. It is only when the pictures explicitly depict undeniably unauthorized recast models, or are used as a means to promote unauthorized recasting that they are prohibited.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Too much pressure is definitely a thing, it will deform the mould cavity.
If you are casting with putty you don't really need to form a water-tight seal. I find that finger strength is adequate.

Further to this, I open up the mould immediately (before cure) and remove the excess putty and then press the two halves of the mould together again (repeat as necessary) and then ensure the halves are lined up correctly once you have the perfect amount of putty.
You can never have too many registration points (the things that help line up the two halves). Holes/bumps inside are good and also, when I'm using instant mold / Oyumaru, I'll even spread the 2nd half of the mould around the edges of the first half to ensure they only fit together one way.

Thanks guys.
@Dr. H- Ive been doing that with the holes so they line up but my problem has been with let say helmets- They turn out okay but the two halves wont be lined up properly. Making me pull what little hair I have out. LOL. Im not trying to copy any major stuff but only small things such as my powerswords and a few helms.
@Reds8n. sorry about that. I didnt know it was against the rules and its my fault for not reading up before posting. Wont happen again
