Sorry for keep posting my Astra Militarum lists LOL i just keep changing it trying to make it better and this is the only way i can get feedback since i live about an hour away from my local GW. I think this lists has alot of awesome shooting pretty much every thing is either twin linked, prescience or is BS 4 with alot of shots.

3 Hydra 210 - most people at my local GW have one or more flyers in there armies and with 'death from the skies' making them more popular and strong i think taking alot of anti air dakka will be effective

Vanquishers, Wyverns and Hydras hide at the back of the board protected by the void shields whilst Pask's squad and the vets more up and take objectives. Please tell me what you think !

Firstly, nice list.

Secondly, your vets seem all confused. Meltas and autocannon seems a little unnecessary. Are they close range or range support?

Thirdly, your assumption about gets hot and preferred enemy is correct...technically...for now. In the FAQ that was recently released it was explicitly stated that preferred enemy DOES NOT allow you to reroll gets hot on blast weapons. However, the FAQ is technically not in effect yet (although many players are using it). So in summary, under the FAQ you do not reroll gets hot.

Thanks so much for telling me about the preference enemy thing i think i will add another psyker to the list for that squad now.

Yeah i agree about the vets, there job is to get and hold objectives so i think the melta is out of place. What do you think would be the best weapon load out for holding an objective sitting in a chimera ? im thinking some flamer and maybe an auto cannon for a little extra dakka.

What is your opinion on the hydras ? its the one part of the list im really not sure about, do you think 3 is worth it ? do you see alot of flyers in your games ? im thinking i might just go one hydra and use the points i will have from getting rid of the 2 hydras to get another squad of vets for more objective secured.

I just read the FAQ and it says 'The roll to see if a Gets Hot Blast weapon overheats is not a To Hit roll' does this mean prescience wouldn't work on plasma cannons gets hot roll either ?

Three of a kind in Heavy slots are usually very suboptimal.

Why not try any of the tank-heavy formations IG have? Tank HQ with wingman, 3 troops that are 1-3 tanks. Add an Ensigneer to get Emperors Fist Armored Company (BS 4 for tanks within 12" from the commander and the ensigneer makes the tanks more resistant) or Hydra för Steel Host (all tanks within 12" from HQ gets Preferred Enemy).

Then you could add a normal CAD for Veterans and heavy support without the need to squeese in three Vanquishers among artillery and AA.

In 40K most AA aim to glance away the targets hull points. S7 and AP above 2 versus fliers with AV11-12, sometimes with ++save and/or IWND makes one Hydra meaningless - have at least two.

For objective camping Forward Sentries are a possibilty. 2 meltabombs to give your soldiers better cover save when they leave their Chimera is cheap.

The Inquisition are always possible to ally in for cheap psykers, servoskulls and specialist units / tech. Multi melta servitors for 2 meltabombs each is a steal - other armies must pay as much for basic troops or LoS fodder. For the same cost you can add a psyker, and a Jokaero adds at least a lascannon to the company. Or anti-deamon / anti-psyker builds, and cheap good CC troops.

three hydras is too many. flyers aren't THAT big of a threat. they still can't score objectives.

I did consider a formation but you cannot take Knight Commander Pask and the two squads of leman russ both have different jobs so they wouldnt all be in 12 inches of each other. However i could just completely change the list to be more leman russ focused, I mean imagine if you turned up to play a game and your opponent had 9 leman russ all bs 4 LOL alot of armies just wouldn't be able to do anything against that amount of AV 14 !

I was thinking about taking Coteaz with three plasma cannon servitors as a support unit for the Pask's squad protecting it from deep strike and giving prescience but i would have to move alot of stuff around to make the points for that.

Why is it sub optimal ?i aside from the down sides of squadrons only being able to shoot at one target a turn i dont see that much that is bad about it.

Yeah i think you're right Axis, hydra is pretty good against skimmers and flying monstrous creatures too but overall 3 is just overkill since alot of people have 0 flyers any way.

The second biggest downside to squadrons is that close combat attacks at the same initiative can carry over through the entire squadron, making them disappear quickly to a couple of thunderhammers.
