Poison, S: 9 or higher. DON'T let him get into CC, DON'T shoot him with plasma or other fire based weapons

Do you have your own primarch?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I have tons of poison. My partner will probably bring Fulgrim.

then let your partner deal with the primarch, while you focus on the rest of the threats. the occasional shot at him would help, but fulgrim should be fine in a fight with vulkan.

Anacharis Scoria of Xana if you have access to Mechanicum forces. His weapon takes away it will not die.

Can you take a Knight Crusader in a HH list? I don't see it listed in book IV - VI, but don't know if it's in the update red book or the updated mechanicum book.

Warden, Gallant, and Crusader are added in the latest Horus Heresy FAQ (see the last page of the file).

That's what the leviathan is for: While the leviathan may fall, the lancer best pray the leviathan doesn't get his charge off (5-6 (iirc) I: 5 attacks at S: 10 armour bane, with 2 S: 8 HOW, and a 4+ invuln always. And you can bring up to 9 in a bound list

The leviathan also really craps on the other knights, the lancer being the only one that isn't completely screwed by the leviathan IMO.

As for Morty and knights, I could live with it all, if it wasn't for the fact that stomp still just 'removes' all primarchs from the game on a 6.

The Leviathan is almost as expensive as the Lancer and vastly slower. The Lancer can maneuver itself to get the charge off at which point the Leviathan is toast.

The Stomp attacks alone have a 33% chance of autokilling Mortarion each round!

Essentially, outclass them (knight or titan), bog them down (something like Cult Horde Levy Militia), or take them on with your own primarch (or your friends').

In a 'fair fight' Fulgrim should be able to take Vulkan. He's got the initiative advantage and plenty of attacks. The problem will be that Vulkan is probably wombling around with a unit of Firedrakes, who will probably smack Fulgrim's escort silly in short order and then start thumping their boss on the back of the head whilst he's trying to fight Vulkan. I don't want to do down Phoenix Guard Terminators, but stormshield/thunder hammer veterans are precisely the sort of unit they don't want to fight because they specialise in charging in and spearing you with a high initiative, AP2 weapon before you can do anything.

Multi-wound, storm shield carrying terminators are not something you can readily ignore. Equally, you're going to have to cut through them before you can shoot Vulkan, too.

There's a pretty good chance you'll need to crack open a Spartan, too. A graviton cannon battery or too is a good investment.

I wouldn't send in a 'big guy' to fight Vulkan if I could avoid it. Some primarchs can be taken apart by a knight or leviathan, or at least stepped on, but Vulkan is, like Ferrus Manus, Perturabo (after Istvaan), Horus, and Angron, who's got a decent chance of smashing a walker to bits in one go.

That's why - at least if playing traitors - I heartily recommend some cult militia. A force commander and 50 cult horde inducted levy costs less than 200 points, and gives you 50 Fearless warm bodies that even a primarch and bodyguard will take several rounds of combat to disentangle themselves from....

Ignore those saying to use a knight.

Vulkan will take apart any knight before it can do a thing.
He usually runs with fire drakes aswell, who h complicates it even more.

Simply ignore him and fire away.
He is slow, so use that to avoid him.

Chances are he will be in a Spartan, so that's the highest priority
Remove that and your fine.

If your fixated on killing him though, just pour shots into him and his unit.
He will tank alot of the instant death hits though for his drakes to keep them going.

Just don't try and engage him in combat as he is one of the higher tier CC primarchs.
Hell, I wouldn't risk throwing 2 knights at him and his unit.

Just shoot and move out of the way.

Run away from him. Feed him crappy units. Ignore him and play the mission.

Unless the mission isn't maelstrom of some form. If it's kill points, hit him with lots of plasma. Lots. Tactical Support Squads with plasma. Assault him if he has a terminator retinue. Call him out with a gakky sergeant while your character kills that retinue. Then shoot him.

That's what I against Perturabo. Kept him tied up for enough rounds to move all my gak away from him and ignored him.

Yea perturabo is bad ass but maneagable in CC, thats why i run him with 10 iron tyrants and a paragon preator.
Fightning guilliman or really any primarch with a primarily choppy bodyguard with him was hilarious, "Would you like 20 to 40 bolter rounds with 20 krak missiles all at bs5?"

Plasma wont be as helpful against Vulkan as it is against Perturabo, as he halves the strength of Plasma Weapons used against him.

I'd say let your partner with Fulgrim deal with Vulkan and hope they took Firebrand instead of The Blade of Laer, for the +1S and Master Crafted. That will be 8 attacks vs Vulkan thanks to the difference in their Init.

I was thinking that it was flamers and meltas that were halved. Don't have my books, but thanks for that.

Yeah I had to double check myself, he also halves Volkite.

Yup he is a beast, especially with his line of effect attack. Thats why you should always rest safe in the happy land of dakka dakka. Autocannon and missiles till he is down.

Would it be ideal to tarpit him with a big Fearless blob?

You probably won't kill him, but he doesn't have that many attacks so you'll take him out the game for what 3-4 turns?

Vulkan can drop a 3" S8 AP3 Blast in melee rather than a normal strike to deal with blobs.

Being Raven Guard, I usually use Kaedus Nex. The amount of damage he can do in one turn against a primarch and it's retinue once they're out of a spartan etc. is just crazy. Rending shots and precision shots are pretty destructive.
