Just curious who else is reading The Beast Arises. It seems like there are a fair number of people read the series.

I nearly stopped after the first book but the rest have been holding my interest so far.

I'm on book 6 now, book 3 was my favourite so far. It's a fantastic series, and seeing how the High Lords are set up is probably the most interesting story in any 40k series I've read.

I fully intend to read it, but have no intention of buying the first book until the last book is finished and for sale.

I bought into the Horus Heresy series... and now with book 38 coming out and about a thousand short stories, limited edition novellas and misc other items, there is no end in sight. I didn't sign on for a neverending series, and yet that appears to be what I got.

If the Beast Arises is legitimately a 12 book series, I'll buy and read it. Until then, I'm skeptical.

Are they available in any sort of electronic format? I couldn't find any on amazon.

Also, the last wall attracted me the most due to the meganob on the cover, and I read the description which describes billions of terran civilians traveling in private ships to 'bring the fight to the enemy'.

I don't know the context, but sending billions of terran civilians (generally upper-crust people with zero combat experience) to combat an ork death star sounds like just about the worst plan ever.

It would be like trying to fight a wolfpack by throwing steaks at them.

Or maybe, because orks like a fight, and terran civilians are incapable of putting up much of a fight, the thought is that the orks will just ignore them?

I really really really tried with this series. Especially considering some of the names on there. But it was just a bad read overall. I gave it the books even, and still I would rather read the Damnation of Pythos repeatedly.

Was a cool concept but bad execution. I expected better after all these years from the Black Library and the prices they are charging now.

All I'm interested in is Eldar bits and I'd rather get summaries on the Internet than get the books.

Without spoiling the important stuff, it actaully goes even worse than you expect and with a neat orkishly appropriate twist.

Eldrad was buddies with the Emperor back in the day, so he sends a Harliquin troop to Terra to give a message of help to the high lords via a web portal. Goes about as well as you would expect.

the series gives a nice look at some chapters you don't see much, and a bit of insight in to just how powerful orks can potentially be and were during the Crusade, along with how badly the Crusade curb stomped the Orks.

I listened to the audio book versions.
Made it till the last part of throneworld.I did enjoy most of it especially the politics, the new ork stuff and the eldar parts. I even enjoyed most of the space marine stuff. But some of the battles and the space marine cliché parts are just too boring.

Whut they actually did put that in the description :\
Damm that kinda spoils the whole adventure. It might be best not to read any 40k Novel descriptions then.

I just wish I had the time to read it. Or the money to buy the books...

I'm sure I will be starting the series in the near future (currently have one and a half other books to read). I love me some Orks, even if I am shifting over a bit towards Skitarii/Ad Mech.

Not until I stopped listening, but there are female inquisitors in the story.

Yeah they usually are in BL I had seen there was a pic of sister of Silence and thought this might be were we find out what happens to them.

I love this series. The books are cheap on Amazon, $10-$13.
Book 1 was slightly boring, but book 3 is my favorite so far.
Give the series a try, it has interesting characters. I admit that I do speed-read through a lot of the battles and a few other boring parts that are side stories, but the main parts are great.

The bit about the citizens of Terra bringing the fight to the orks is very heavily addressed by a main character of the series. He completely disagrees with it and calls it madness.

Definitely worth the read!

I am loving the series so far. A lot of well done fiction in this series, with the only two books that failed to meet my expectations being The Hunt for Vulkan and I am Slaughter. The rest are very interesting reads. I particularly loved Predator, Prey and Throneworld, and those two are some of my favorite 40k books. Predator, Prey paints a very grimdark depiction of the Orks along with a unique ocean covered world, While Throneworld had a ton of great character moments and the action was very fun to follow.

Honestly, skip I am slaughter and go straight to Predator Prey, as it's pretty much the start of the series in the general sense while I am Slaughter was just a very slow build up.

"Do you really think 7th edition was the best edition?"

"Yes, and I'm tired of thinking otherwise."

Great read so far (or listen, as is the case with me, helps make the hours at work a little more tolerable). And if like me you wanted to read about the Harlequins laying down the law, well, book 5 doesn't disappoint.

Spoiler:
I also deeply hope we haven't seen the last of that Shadowseer for this series, as her scenes with Vangorich and the Inquisition were some of the most intense writing from BL. There's a bit line in book number 6 that implies she's still a thing, so fingers crossed.
