I have always used GW paints since I've started painting. The paints are good and after the change they are even better. I'm thinking of making a change to another paint line. What are some opinions the community has about this? I love my gw paints as they are really good but im thinking droppers are the way to go more and more. The color choices are just as broad, etc. What do you guys say?

Vallejo. Large colour line (and some brilliant "serious" colours in the Model and Panzer lines) and droppers. $3 or so per bottle. Not sure how that prices out with other companies.

I use Coat d'Arms almost exclusively. Love the pots and they have the old GW colour range still.

I can't vote on one, it depends on what tool I'm using and what color.

I have a lot of GW paint, but I am moving to Vallejo slowly. Their paints are of such a good quality compared to GW ones, and there's more in the pot for a cheaper price. I do still use GW paint for metals however.

Apple barrel/America.

I've used GW and Reaper paints and I have not seen any noticable difference from these "el cheapo" paints from Walmart and hobby stores. The only thing I've fallen back to the GW paints on is their Layer metallics and washes; I'm betting if I could find a similar formula for making inks/washes without using water, I'd probably drop that as well.

Ask and you shall receive (at least the washes part, you will still need inks and water).

And this is the thread here on Dakka where it was originally posted.

P3, all day every day, all the way!!!

i paint straight from the pot, so i prefer the lids versus Vallejo's droppers...
i find the unique undertones in the colors to be a lot of fun to work with, like the green-grey of Cryx Bane Base, the red-brown of Bloodstone, the blue-grey of Greatcoat Grey and so on...

the satin finish is also my prefered look...
some lines, like Reaper dry way too matte for my taste...
i want to try Scale 75, because they have really interesting tones, but the super-matte finish, and dropper bottles, have made me pass on them so far...

P3 inks are great for glazing...
the two washes dry a bit glossy, so i use the Armor Wash mostly on my steels and silvers, and the Flesh Wash on my golds and bronze...

aside from the Vallejo Air metals like Gold and Aluminium, and technical paints like Smoke, i have been very disappointed with Vallejo...
i only put up with the tips of the droppers cracking on the Air because those two colors are so awesome...

from GW i only use Reikland Fleshshade on my brown base dirt, Druchi Violet on my grey rubble bases, and Martian Ironearth for cracked earth...

Coat d'Arms are great if you want old GW colors like Ghost Grey, Scaly Green, and Midnite Blue...

Foundry are nice if you like the triad set-up to the color range...

mixing and matching for specific purposes and finishes is the way to go, but 95% of my go-to paints are P3

cheers

I use all different kinds. There are too many GW colors that I love.

P3 also has some colors that are staples for me too (sanguine base, umbral umber, menoth white etc).

The Vallejo droppers are clearly the best - though the paint doesn't thin with water as well as P3 or GW if you like really, really thin mixes. I love the Vallejo Model Color metallics especially and the brush-on (water based) varnishes.

I also use some Badger Miniataire in my airbrush.

I paint using a mix, I pick the colour I want not the brand of paint.

I use GW, Vallejo Game, Vallejo Model, P3, Miniataire, and Tamiya.

They all offer me something that I want.
