So, title says it all...
I was working on my Sister's of Steel this morning (as I usually do). Let me set a little of the scene. I work in an extra bedroom set up for my hobby, so filled with thirty years of stuff. I like music while I work, so have a speaker system set up for my laptop to plug into so I can use playlists etc (I know, you all get it..) So, today my task was pinning several models. I use a drill with a 1/16th bit and florists wire. Well, since I had a dozen to do I got impatient and did not use my vice but chose to hold the mini's by hand braced on a convenient flat surface on the left side of my table. Anyway, I got distracted while just about through a mini by my cat attacking my shelf of Sister's of Battle...Before I had realized it, the drill had popped through the min and punched through the base box of the speaker system i was using as my brace (yes, stupid but I've done it so many times before)...Since it was active there was a wonderful show of sparks, and I had to go find a new set of boxers.
Fortunately, nothing blew up, and a simple wire splice saved me...but it was pretty stupid.

A second mishap I saw but did not know the individual (and hope he is okay...) While attending Gamesday in southern California (yeah I'm old, and this was way back when GW cared about Cali...) walking into gamesday you crossed a busy entrance to a large shopping center. The group ahead of us had the typical stack of cases and cardboard boxes full of their army. One guy, so busy talking to his friend , walked into the overhanging branches from a shrub. Unbalanced, he stumbled to the side and his stack of boxes began to fall. Reacting as any true gamer, he lunged after attempting to catch three or four cases in only two hands...Unfortunately his lunge took him into the roadway, and a line of cars exiting. They all slammed their brakes on and the clsosest stopped literally touching him....sadlay, the delivery truck three cars back did not, and the whole line was smashed forward. The dude went down, but wasn't run over. He stumbled up shaken, while twenty gamers all stared at the flattened cases under the car...and wept tears of sympathy.

Okay, I started it...so go for it and share what your worst (or funny) hobby disasters.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Hi guys
long time lurker had to respond to this post as it made me laugh , apart from the normal hobby mishaps cut fingers drill bits in fingers and glued fingers, the worst thing I've done in my long time in the hobby came last June, I had just treated my self to a imperial knight castigator and promptly started to clean and assemble it, chuff with my purchase I was assembling the feet sections so I putt my little dabs of superglue into the recesses and lined up the O ring peice pressing nice and gently I felt a shooting pain in my right eye, air had escaped as I pressed it down and glue came shooting out straight in to my right eye and tearduct, promptly noting on all glue packets to rinse with bucket loads of water I tried to wash it out, a bit embarrassed I phoned my wife at her work to say what had happened, as any wife does she calls me all the stupid things under the sun and tell me to get up to casualty to get checked out, lucky for me my contact lense took the brunt of the glue and I only damaged the white of my eye and tear ducts a trip to casualty and a week long trip in and out of the opticians and a year that I could not wear contacts later, I was told I was lucky not to loose my eye so now I wear ppe to assemble all my forgeworld minis not just for sanding but gluing as well lol, so always be vigilant and safe when assembling your minis

I was assembling this land raider primaris or whatever it is, first time assembling a land raider. So I was doing sub assemblies and glued it all up - used elastic bands to keep it all secure while drying.

Unfortunately, I used too much glue, or too many elastic bands, because it warped the tank to the point that the top no longer fits, and the tracks don't go on.

I think I've managed to salvage it, but I pooped myself a little bit...

In my early days, soaking a Land Raider in a pot of Ethanol.
Knowing I'D have to do some scrubbing to get it clean, I sat down in front of my PC (different painting setup at that time...) listeining to music while violently scrubbing. Looking up after a few minutes, my monitor, desk and speakers where all covered with tiny, dried droplets of Army Painter Bone primer.

Still did not managed to clean it all off after about 4 years.

as for modeling mishaps, other than multiple spilling of entire contents of washes, my personal worst was spilling an entire bottle of plastic melty glue all over my plague monks as I was working on them... at least they got nurglified at the tend tho

The one that still pains me happened recently. I get attached to brushes, 80% of my work is a size 1 and for the past year it was my Scharff.

I had earlier dabbed a bit of super glue on my work table to make sure it was flowing, and when I switched back to brush I managed to dip my scharff right into the super glue. Nothing I did was able to save it and return it to its former glory.

It was the catalyst for me switching to W&N.

I had made a "low melt metal" mold for some models I modified / sculpted.
I was doing my first pour with my friends around me and I was holding the mold.
A disk the size of a quarter squirted onto my hand between thumb and forefinger: the web of my hand.
The pain was excruciating and I was smelling burnt skin but I could not throw the mold away, flail or any of those things.
Calmly turned around, placed the mold down, peeled the disk off my skin and then run for the nearest tap.
I had to tell the doctor twice what happened.

1 year later, I had set up a mig welding jig to weld 3/4" booster pins into brake pedals.
Trying out the third part, a red glowing pin "inserted" into my forearm about a 1/4".
Got to see my doctor again and commented that me and heated metal is a bad combination.

Tactical_Spam Vanden clearly loves making sweet sweet love to his school. He is the most passionate, learning oriented individual you will ever meet.
War Kitten You should ask nicely before hitting people with your stick Vanden. We're a polite society after all.
2BlackJack1 Snow is great though. Snowmen, snowball fights, frostbite, snow forts, what's not to love?
Kharne the Befriender It's just the smug look of eternal irony while you wait for Creed to pull out his Baneblade so you can steal it.
War Kitten I love how this has gone from a deathly serious war to a discussion about how Vanden is secretly a whale wearing panties. Welcome to the Crusade of Fury.
Irishpeacockz Well this crusade will be endless then as I imagine Vandan has a large collection of inflatables lying around

I sliced the top of my thumb off....... just above the bone, which you could see peeking at the top. I can't even remember which model I was cutting although I do remember the phonecall to my local surgery on whether I could go to them of A&E....

Weirdly enough despite the nurse saying it was extremely unlikely the missing flesh would grow back, it did. She did ask if I had the missing flesh as she could glue it back on..... I didn't seeing as soon as I cut it off my cat jumped off my bed and ate it right infront of me......
