Ok, so I'm building a Skitarii heavy list with some Walker support. I like this approach much more than using the Sicarians. I love their concept, but the models look a little weird. Having said that I suppose War Convocation is eventually in my future, so I may as well get used to them eventually.

I've created a new list shown here. I've spoilered the old list so some of the comments don't go completely out of context.

Skitarii Maniple Omega
Rad-Trooper Cohort Delta - 200pts
10 Skitari Vanguard; Vanquard Alpha with conversion field, 3 plasma calivers

Rad-Trooper Cohort Sigma - 121pts
9 Skitarii Vanguard; 1 plasma caliver

Rad-Trooper Cohort Omega - 82pts
8 Skitarii Vanguard

Hunter Cohort - 150pts
10 Skitarii Rangers; 2 arc rifles

Sniper Cohort - 115pts
5 Skitarii Rangers; 2 arquebus

Sandcrawlers - 230pts
2 Onager Dunecrawlers; neutron lasers and heavy stubbers

Skysplitter - 125pts
Onager Dunecrawler with icarus array

Ironstrider Cavaliers
Sydonian Light Brigade - 360pts
4 Sydonian Dragoons
4 Sydonian Dragoons

Ironstrider Cohort - 110pts
2 Ironstrider Ballistari

1493 Points Total

Original list:
Spoiler:
I'm just starting out with Skitarii. So far I have 2 squads of Skitarii and 2 Onagers. I guess I'm going to build up to a Battle Maniple to start off, as it seems like that's the basis of any legal force (there being no CAD options) even though I really am not a fan of the Sicarians.

Rad-Trooper Cohort - 160pts
10 Skitari Vanguard; 2 plasma calivers

Hunter Cohort - 150pts
10 Skitarii Rangers; 2 arc rifles

Shiv Killclade - 160pts
5 Sicarian Ruststalkers; transonic blades

Infiltrator Killclade - 325pts
9 Sicarian Infiltrators; flechette blasters and taser goads

Sydonian Light Brigade - 180pts
4 Sydonian Dragoons

Sandcrawlers - 250pts
2 Onager Dunecrawlers with icarus arrays

1225 points total

So why include sicarians? They can be good but not really a must and can be pretty insta gibbed now. I would seriously get the get started box and put one of your icarus arrays there and the other two neuron cannons. Run 3 Plasma Cavaliers and 3 Arc Rifles in your current squads then the third squad from the get started box. You should probably have at least 30-40 Vanguard Rangers at a 2:1 ratio.

I would pick up some Ironstriders and put them in a formation with the dragoons, can be quite good out flanking turn one. Skitarii are a very fragile Army, you need to kill as much as you can turn 1 and 2.

Don't run a battle maniple, you don't want to be forced into taking both ruststalkers and infiltrators, just run a skitarii maniple (the force org with 2 compulsory troops and no HQ).

Put 3 calivers in your warlords unit of vanguard to avoid gets hot with preferred enemy.

I don't have 2 icarus onagers even at 1500 points unless i know i'm facing eldar or lots of flyers.

You're massivley lacking in anti armour.

You need more basic infantry, skitarii's strength is overwhelming massed firepower, use it.

Grey Knights - 3500pts
SKitarii - 4000pts
Ad mech - 2000pts
Imperial Knights - 1000pts
Black Templars - 3200pts
Genestealer cults - 1750

Well that's ridiculous on my part! Knowing there were no Skitarii HQs I assumed I had to take one of the formations. I was beginning to regret starting them up since I love the Skitarii themselves but am not a huge fan of the Sicarians. Figuring it was just like the CAD page in every other book, I flipped right past that! That'll teach me not to read things!.

I'm updating the list to reflect more how I'd want it. I do have the Get Started! set but I don't have the Cult Mechanicus Codex to run the Techpriest yet. Next purchases will be another Get Started box and the Codex.

Messing around with a list earlier, here is a more streamlined approach.

The magic number is 3 for Dragoons even in a war convocation maybe 4 if you were to run one. This is sticking to what you want to achieve, always remember max special weapons or none at all. If bits are the issue search eBay for bits dealers.

Skitarii Maniple

10 Vanguard - 3 Arc Rifles, Omnispex
10 Vanguard
5 Rangers - 2 Aquibas
2 Onager Dune Crawlers - Nueron Cannons, 1 Heavy Stubber

Dominus Manilla

Dominus - Raiment of the Technomyer
10 Vanguard - 3 Plasma Cavaliers
1 Onager Dune Crawler- Icarus Array

Ironstrider Cavaliers

3 Dragoons - Taser Lance's
3 Dragoons - Taser Lance's
3 Ironstriders- TL Autocannons

1500 Points on the nose

Its a list I would run, fun, lots of cool toys. Rangers are your objective campers especially in Maelstrom.

I would split up the dragoons and ballistari. You are missing out on an excellent MSU opportunity and ironstriders in squadrons don't hold up well to things like scat packs. I would either:

A) Run them as 3 different ironstrider cavaliers formations turning 3 scoring units (and potential targets) into 9

or

B) Run two ironstrider cavalier formations and then. Two units of 2 dragoons each in the maniple, allowing them to take advantage of turn 1 charge if available.

Overall, I feel if you have a lot of ironstriders you're best served trying to split them up into as many units as possible. you can always still run them together, but more targets for your opponent to choose between is always a good thing. Plus they are very fast and can be excellent objective grabbers. That many AV 11 vehicles on the field can be a major problem for an army, especially when they have to be targeted individually.
