A bit more information would be useful, how old, do you have a job, do you want to buy or rent etc. etc.

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

Have a plan. Know where you're going to move, how much it's going to cost you, get a realistic idea of how much food, utilities and transportation are going to cost you and where the money comes from.

Make sure you have a large financial buffer for all the things you don't realise you need (like a toolkit, or an ironing board, or a sofa, etc). Make a reasonable budget to figure out if you can afford it, and make sure there's lots of leeway because everything costs more than you'd assume.

Once you're happy that you can afford it, got for it. Don't forget to visit your parents though

Yeah, you need to make sure you have a decent portion of savings put away in case of emergency. Will suck a ton trying to pay rent and pay off something like car repairs for example or having to take time off work.

Try to make a budget and when you have one stick to it. If you think you can comfortably spend more after a while, readjust it. Learn to cook reasonably well and co-ordinate what you feel like cooking in a way that makes the best out of what you buy; if its fine for the big restaurants to make the most of what they buy this way then it's fine enough for you as well.

I agree, more information would be helpful. However I have been on my own since I was 18. different circumstances but what I learned is inline with what most are saying. Things cost way more when you are handling stuff on your own.

Find a roommate. Look for someone offering a bedroom for rent, start there. Have money saved up. If you do get an apartment the starting rental costs can be significant. Food begins to become a luxury when you are struggline. By food I mean the awesome meals you are probably used to. Get used to living a little lower on the bar than previously. That is perfectly OK. You always start at the bottom of the hill, then start climbing slowly up.

Do not, I say again, do not get so enamored with bachelor life that you put partying and chasing tail above your needs.

If you do not own a vehicle, that should be the priority unless you live close to work, or have great public trans, but chasing tail is much easier with a vehicle.

Move in with a mate or 3. Spread the cost and workload, and learn how to live away, with backup when you need it.
Just make sure they're trustworthy. Shouting at them to pay up their 3 months of back-rent puts a strain on any friendship.
Also, be prepared to pay a share of a share, if someone moves out. Being the only one left in a 4-bed house when the others have all moved on, that will be tough.

Get a job if you don't have one. Being out of sight of the parents means you're out of mind, too. Drop by with your weekly washing if you need to, but keeping in touch can get you out of trouble it it comes calling. Keep some credit at the "Bank of Mum and Dad", even if it is just lifts with the shopping when you realise you bought too much to get home yourself.

Which leads on to: Don't move too far. Across town might work. Across the country sounds good after a shouting match, until you need them for something.

I was gonna say that, but we already get enough older people who had no aspirations of moving out and thought the Army would fix them. If it wasn't on his mind already, then that is probably not a good option. Private sector is probably his best bet, and if he puts his mind to it, he can be successful.

Get a job and get the feth out. If you're not in college or university or trade school, you should not be living with your parents after you turn 21.

Bad idea most people just moving out are pigs and take advantage of you. And if they do not pay their part of the rent or just move out and you where counting on them ur boned.

well for starters, some things to consider:

1: many places require you to have a job where you make 2-3 times the cost of rent, first and last month's rent, if you have pets your options became very limited
2: living on your own includes utilities and food
3: room mates are good and/or bad, remember you have a room mate you have no clue who they will have over spending the night, or who they will have over at the place, or even who they are, room mates should not be taken into lightly especially these days, also privacy is non-existent with room mates.
4: make sure your job is secure.

How old are your parents?
The smart money is on grinding them down to an early grave or forcing them into a home.
Make sure they take any pets with them too as that can be an unnecessary stress.

Ya leaving early is a bad idea and set yourself up for failure plan. If you can afford a morgage a house or are not done of school rushig this is the best way to stay poor for .... Most likely the rest of your life. Paying this months bills with next months money. Slow and steady do things right.

If you're planning on moving out, do as others have said and carefully plan - the last thing you need to do is your own version of a Brexit

What are you doing about it? As others have said, do you have a job? Have you saved up money or spent it all on the latest Steam sale?

Give more information.

Also, I will repeat. By the age of 23, you should already have an exit strategy.

Or, ya know, get a job and stay with your parents, save money, mooch off your parents and get a house when you have saved enough instead of bleeding money in to rent and living paycheque to paycheque for years on end
