I just had a question for some of the psychic powers in the daemons codex. I know that the current daemons 'dex is one of the oldest in 40k, and when you see the units page a lot of the psychic units have to generate powers from certain disciplines. I wanted to build a summoning based list for next years GW Schools League army (450pts please don't ask why) and I wanted to include fateweaver and other psychic units in. Do I have to generate powers from the disciplines stated in the codex, or can I switch that out for Malefic Daemonology?
Thanks

The Chaos Daemons FaQ and Errata gives Fateweaver access to Daemonolgy. He generates 1 Malefic power for each head.

You can absolutely use malefic demonology with all your psykers, as per the 7th edition rulebook.

Also, there are expanded god specific disciplines available in war zone fenris CotW.

Fatey is the best psyker in the game IMO just he pretty much always has something thats good for the situation.

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

Having entered the school league I can say as great as summoning is you will only have 40 minutes to play one game you do not want to be wasting potential assault time waiting for the models to be able to charge as they cannot charge the turn they are summoned. Also if you don't get first turn some armies are going to kill him in 1 turn (I have managed this last year). Be careful as I've seen plenty of super-heavies at the school league (albeit at 750pts) a stormsurge and markerlights (think you can fit this) is really going to hurt. But my main piece of advice for the school league is making an army that is able to score points as quick as possible otherwise that 40 minute time limit is gonna ruin you. I personally would be tempted to rely on units other than fateweaver to summon so more things like pink horrors etc. However if you want to use fateweaver then make sure to deploy him in cover to avoid what I said above and make sure you get as far up the table as possible.

Sorry for the wall of text.

Remember, with Fateweaver, you only can use one head per turn. This means while each head gets one malific power, you need to be careful about which head you want to use. It means if you get cursed earth and incursion, you are only going to be casting one per turn. As such, fatey is not the best tool for summoning. He is awesome, don't get me wrong, but he's not a summon machine.

At 450 points, I would suggest looking at "The Blue Scribes" and some heralds of Tzeentch. I'd had really good luck with the scribes, in most games they throw out a lot of summoning. In at least half the games I play with them, they pop into a D-Thirster

Edit : In 40 minute games, summoning armies will struggle. Daemons are mostly a CC army, and summoning takes time. Assault phases take time. For a league like yours, I would not run a summoning based army.

Also remember that they expanded the demons powers list, there are now 7 psychic powers per god (including the Str D WC3 wich fire power).

If you have an old copy of the book you might not have the new psychic powers. They are online or you can buy them;
