Hi, I have been into 40k for 6 years and I have another tournament soon. It's 750pts and I have got a list that I would like you to leave thoughts on.

Hq:
Captain w/
Relic blade
Bolt pistol
115pts

Troops:
Tactical squad (10 man) w/
Missile launcher
Plasma gun
Rhino- storm bolter
205pts

Tactical squad (5 man)
70pts

Elite:
Dreadnought w/
Stormbolter
Twin-linked lasscanon
115pts

Fast attack:
Stormtalon gunship w/
Twin linked assault cannon
Sky hammer missile launcher
115pts

Heavy support:
Vindicator w/
Demolished cannon
Siege shield
130pts

=750pts

The plan for this list is have the captain with the 5 man tactical squad just sitting at the back preventing any deep strike units and capturing close objectives. The other tac squad in the rhino to travel fast across the table capturing objectives with the pg and ml shooting every turn.
The dreadnought to sit with the tactical squad at the back with the 48" range to take out any heavy armour. The stormtalon to come on turn 2 and deal with any infantry with the assault cannons and sky hammer or weak armoured transports. The vindicator to move up to half way and then deal with large units with the large blast s10 ap1 or even armour or heavy armoured infantry.

Let me know what you guys think

Personally if it's going to be competitive at 750 I think it needs better use of points particularly around the HQ - that's a lot of points that's not actively doing much.
I would decide on the Chapter Tactics and build to those strengths e.g. White Scars --> Bikes, landspeeders, storm talons etc. Salamanders --> Flamers etc..

Additionally think about what's strong at low points
e.g.
*HQ Force Multiplier/buffer like a librarian, Khan on his bike or a chaplain buffing assault troops.
*Bikes......with grav (and sometimes melta)
*Scouts & LSS for objective grabbing
*Tacticals keep them focused - it's usually better to go with a special weapon + Combi weapon on the Serg, rather than Special + Heavy.

I've posted a few low points lists I've been working on and they all rely on speed and mobility.

For your list assuming you want to keep the captain (which I wouldn't personally)
a)I would drop 1 marine and the heavy weapon from the tactical squad and run him there with the rhino. I would give the Captain and/or Serg Combi plasma.
b)I would want the 2nd tactical squad to have a delivery mechanism (rhino) but at this points level strongly consider a CCW scout squad on a LSS for my 2nd troop choice.
c) For fast attack consider either bikes or a pair of landspeeders with TMLs rather than your Storm Talon (although it's not a bad choice)
d) lose the Vindicator in my opinion to allow the above - fine tune the above to allow for your chapter choice.

Here's an example of my 750 point list (it's not perfect

Automatically Appended Next Post:
White Scars
HQ
Librarian ML2 & Bike

Troops
5 bikes with grav gunsx2 and Combi grav
5 bikes with grav gunsx2 and Combi grav

5 scouts (close combat weapons) & LSS with MMelta
5 scouts (close combat weapons) & LSS with MMelta

Fast Attack
Land speeder HBolter and Typhoon ML
Land speeder HBolter and Typhoon ML

Exactly 750 points

Grav is tourney meta, for sure.. if you intend to be close, maybe you should go it.

land speeder storms are amazing too... ObSec w/ 6 units seems nice (the list offered by Shadowscream).
The typhoon speeders tho, i'm not so sure on. perhaps cuz it's so low of points, maybe they'd do well.

I do see however that if you want to use your dreadnought, which is awesome, maybe it'd be worth the points to make it a Vet (in this 750 game) as there's so much less able take it out at that point.
Additionally, i would give him a CCW. Without a CCW i'd happily get my quick units into cc with him and tie him up like nothing else...

what if your storm talon arrives turn 4? is it worth that risk? for funzees sure why not but in a game where you must commit and rely on your units - i've seen games where i've rolled 1's for reserves (using the Damocles Command Rhino) TWO turns in a row, and quite truly lost that game because of this - too many points not being used turn after turn after turn.

i do like the 'feel' of your list tho.
Just some thoughts.

First, welcome to Dakka.

Your list looks reasonably balanced and fun. I don’t think I’d call it competitive though. Depends a lot on your local meta.

If you are just going to have a HQ sit back on defense, take a librarian or techmarine. They offer buffs, at fewer points. Captains really need to be geared up and aggressive to get stuff done.

10 man tac squad is fine. In a more competitive list, I might swap the ML for a c-plas on the sarge. Of use the tacs as a place to get more grav/melta into your list.

If you are taking a naked 5 man tac squad to camp backfield objectives, go with scouts instead.

I love dreads, but they are not the most competitive thing out there. What you have should work. Upgrade the SB to a HF if you can find the points.

Talon is good.

You need to respect the pie plate, but watch the side armor on the vindi.

A quick comment about Typhoon Landspeeders:
Fragile but great value (points/firepower)

PLUS
On my list (above) they allow for the Stormbringer formation if formations are allowed.

It's always worth looking at the cheaper formations - so in the example above it can be a CAD or CAD with Stormbringer with exactly the same units.
