I... actually don't know. Help?

So I'm doing some blending with metallic paints, and I want to highlight my Runefang Steel with a brighter metal. Can I just mix it with white?

No don't do that, that will definitely ruin the effect.

GW Stormhost Silver (it's new) is brighter and so is Vallejo Model Colour Silver.

You could alternatively darken the shadow areas to make more contrast.

I think it depends what effect he is going for. Mixing white with silver will tone down the metallic. It may work ok on blades edges to give it a more polished look because it takes away the sparkle. If you are going this route, test it on a small area. If you dont like it, paint over it.

You don't want to mix in white. You want something like Vallejo's Metal Medium.

Again, you do NOT want to mix in white.

That's not going to achieve what you want.

Do you have any pics of what you are currently work with? I would usually consider Runefang as a highlight color in itself. May be worth using leadbelcher as your undercoat and going over it with runefang instead?

I don't have any good pics, but it's a shoulderpad basecoated with Ironbreaker, shaded with nuln oil and drakenhof nightshade to an almost black and blended into runefang steel at the top. I need something to highlight that with.

And again VMC Silver is really bright - but contrast is the best option.

a way to make your metals brighter is first base the area you want to be metal in white, then paint on your darkest metal, then highlight to your lightest.

If you base white, you can make lead beltcher look like rune fang steel, or a silver even.

To many unpainted models to count.

at the keyboard

prime white
basecoat leadbelcher (not iron breaker imo) & I find you may well need two coats over a white primer
do your shades
can bring leadbelcher back up here, or go to iron breaker
then iron breaker
then runefang steel

anyway, that's usually what I do for a bright metal, but since you're already at the last stage I'd definitely try out the stormhost silver if you can, it's a good colour to have in your tool box
