Due to current model limitations I can only utilise the Cast of Players formation to go with my Craftworld Eldar force. So using all yet to be assembled Harlequin models I have, I have come up with the following:

Cast of Players - 440pts
60pts Death Jester
105pts Shadowseer - ML2 Haywire Grenades Mask of Secrets
275pts Troupe - 12x Players with 3x Embraces, 8x Kisses including Troupe Master with Cegorach's Rose, Embrace

For those who don't know the formation means the Shadowseer and Death Jester can't leave the troupe and the formation and all eldar models within 6" get crusader.

For the Shadowseer I plan to roll once on Telepathy and if I don't get invisibility swap out for Psychic Shriek, then roll on Phantasmancy and most probably take Veil of Tears. Or alternatively roll once on Phantasmancy see what I get depending on that roll again or roll once on Telepathy.

Troupe Master will be warlord to try and get a good warlord trait like adding 4 to seize the initiative, all warlord traits seem amazing for Harlequins

Any c&c is welcome, this is for use within a relatively competitive environment against varying imperial forces the most deadly being a War Convocation in typically large games of 2500pts

If you are planning to pair them up with CWE, it would not be a bad idea at all to put them with a solid tanking character like possibly Jain Zar, to give them a little durability from the front if they are successfully fired upon. Veil protects very reliably from most artillery, wyverns and the like which would blast your clowns apart from range, your primary concern often becomes how am I going to survive when a 10 man tactical squad unloads from 12" away. Plus, if you include a character like Jain, you get the benefit of the Crusader buff.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Jain Zar would be great, denying overwatch 2+ T4 eternal warrior, but she is 200pts and I don't own her yet only Karandras out of the Phoenix lords. They definitely require more shooting protection, a Farseer fishing for powers like fortune, the Shadowseer would probably fish for power 1 on phantasmancy for stealth and shrouded. It's definitely a weakness when facing shooting within 24" which I'll have to bear in mind when playing

While I don't know all the ins and outs of Harlequins, is there anything preventing a few marines in pods just blowing this away first turn? It doesn't seem particularly competitive (not much Harlequin stuff does).

If i did not have first then they would be hiding in somewhere that would give them 4+ cover or would be in reserve most likely

Yeah I don't think that's going to be terribly effective. 4+ cover T3 W1 models are still dying very easily, and if you reserve them you're looking at a T3 charge at best assuming they survive.

Drop pods aren't a concern at the moment because my main opponent doesn't have any, the only things he does have wouldn't be arriving til at least turn 2 so I would likely have psychic protection on by then

This is just a temporary force until I have the units for the other formations, I'll probably even take off 6 harlequins to make it cheaper

Somewhere

Depending upon your range Veil of Tears offers "now you see me now you don't" shenanigans.

The thing about Harlies is they are the glass hammer. My last two games could not have been more different. Got tabled turn 2 by a shooty eldar force and another I tabled IG turn 7.

I know those 2 opponents are not on the same tier at all but the point is i got shot to hell going 2nd with minimal terrain on the board by turn 2 but another game I was able to use lots of terrain to my favor, I won initiative, my psychic powers went off, my warlord trait viable...

So yeah you can blow them to hell turn 1 or maybe you can't.
