So I mean, they're not terrible by any stretch, and I do have 80 of the foot and 10 of the mounted. Anyone got some interesting advice or ideas for ways to buff them or debuff their enemies such that I can be warranted something other than a "buy Temple Guard"?

The battalion out of the downloadable PDF seems decent enough - extra bite attack and immunity to battleshock is reasonable. Even without it a big unit did a good job tying up a roughly similar amount of points of other non-amazing CC troops.

While I haven't seen the points costs for Seraphon, I can say that GHB points overall favor big monsters and a smattering of undercosted units and if your on the short end of the stick there's not a lot you can do. My best advice is to use them even if they are sub-par and ask your opponents to tone back their lists if needed. The battalion helps, as can various buffs from command abilities and magic (Battle Wizards of beasts have a good buff spell that works on anyone).

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Call them guard and put them around your skink priest in the eternal starhost formation.

2+ armor save rerolling.

With an astrolith beside kroak this is a huge deathstar and shoots out massive waves of magic each turn. Really tough to penetrate and kroak is a stinker to kill.

His command ability insures you get the skinks ability off each turn.

hey what time is it?

I'm not sure, a lot of the big monster units tend to be delicate for their points, like I've yet to see a carnosaur earn his points. The usual routine is he gets clipped by some range early on, starts sucking, and eventually gets charged and dropped. Skarbrand is the only monstrous creature I see regularly make his points, and he is kind of a special case, because if you don't kill him in one go, your making things worse for yourself. The real winners from the GHB are battleline units which are usually under cost.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.
