Anyone play Fyreslayers? If so, do you have any advice on how to play them well?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

I'm just starting to get into AoS. I've been collecting fantasy models for a while now, but I've been more on the hobby side than on the game side. I just started playing the game recently. I was considering putting together a Fyreslayers army. But, aside from the Subterranean battalions (essentially deep strike units seemingly without scatter), I don't really see a way for an army like the Fyreslayers to really stand on their own mainly because of their movement. With the exception of their one mount (the Magmadroth), they are all foot sloggers that can't move far at all during each movement phase.

I was just curious if anyone is playing Fyreslayers and what kind of tactics you use if you are playing them.

Thanks

A Runemaster can 'deep strike' and bring another unit along, and Auric Hearthguard put down a decent threat range with their shooting. Unless you personally want to go just Fyreslayers you can mix&match with any other Order models and still get the same Allegiance benefits, so that opens up quite a few options.

As to actual tactics, I'd say one or even two Battlesmith heroes is almost essential for an all-Fyreslayer army because of the awesome buff they put out. Vulkite Berserkers with Pick&Shield are going to be your best main line unit. With a Battlesmith they will have a re-rollable 4+ save then get their berserker 'ward' save as well. I've seen a block of 30-40 used that way to terrifying effect.

Also check out the various battalions and see what may work for you, some of them have pretty easy requirements to meet and the Forge Guard one is particularly useful.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.
