no idea how this series is going to work or exactly how this is going to tie in -- if at all -- with the movies.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

When it says Legion, does it mean son of Xavier, killed Xavier in the comics, unleashing the Age of Apocalypse? BRING IT THE FETH ON!! About freaking time!!
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

David Haller, a man diagnosed with schizophrenia, has struggled with mental illness since he was a teenager. But everything changes when he meets the girl of his dreams—a fellow patient—and is confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.
Hawley told HitFix that the series won't feature any of the X-Men characters.[12]
hmmmm ..
sounds a bit like a story they wanted to do anyway and the 'hero tie in is more of a crutch to help get the show made ?
But who knows ?

I'll watch this because it's related to the X-men and Legion shares my surname.

To be honest, it looks like it belongs more in the Heroes universe, or heck, actually it reminds me even more of Mutant X.
It depends when it's on though. - We're kinda reaching saturation point for 8pm-10pm geekily inclined shows with them all airing during the same weeks. And a show like this, is going to be very near the bottom of the priority order for viewing.
On the other hand... If its shown during another period (eg now, where there is nothing on tv at all for the non sport inclines), I'd probably watch it.
Not when the builders of your flat decided to skimp out and only put in a single feed (or whatever it was). So basically. if I record something, I have to be watching it. Which isn't helpful when there's multiple shows overlapping at the same time...

That's down to your PVR, not the line in. You need a PVR with two channels (and most of them do, these days) .. Then you can record one while watching another.

Automatically Appended Next Post: I do expect to be put off though.
Hell, don't even get the X-Men actors. Make it a TV show with a new cast and do what DC is doing, splitting its TV and film universes (or at least split Age of Apocalypse into a separate universe).
Bryan Singer‘s X-Men movie universe is about to make its way to television with FX‘s Legion. And according to Singer, who is an executive producer on the series, it will have deep ties to the movie universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Singer told an audience at the Edinburgh Television Festival that Legion and a currently untitled X-Men project for FOX will “relate to future X-Men movies.” But he also said the series will be accessible to those who have never watched an X-Men film. “When you watched it, you wouldn’t have to label it, it could exist completely on its own,” he explained.
Legion, developed by Fargo mastermind Noah Hawley, will have a “really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline,” according to Singer. The eight-episode debut season will focus Dan Stevens’ David Haller, a trouble young man who learns his visions may not be a symptom of schizophrenia, but part of a real conflict brewing in the world. Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart and Rachel Keller also star. It is set to debut in 2017.
The other unnamed series is currently being developed by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix and concerns a family on the run from a government agency when their children develop mutant powers. Their attempt to flee brings them to a mutant underground. The new concept replaces FOX’s earlier attempt to develop a series based on the Hellfire Club.
Huh, never saw that coming.

Looks pretty trippy and really interesting - I'll definitely give it a shot.
The problem is after seeing the trailer, i have no clue what it is about.
Is about a powerful mutant or a guy who is mentally ill who thinks that he is a mutant?
It's about a powerful mutant who thinks he's insane or at least everyone else does. The first episode it weird to watch because it does a lot of non-linear story telling stuff that I find annoying. It does not appear that that will be the case going forward though so hopefully it picks up.
Yeah. It did seem well made enough though that is probably recommend giving someone two or three episodes to figure out whether they like it or not. The first episode was weird enough that I don't think it's right to make an opinion out of it based solely on that
Right. Definitely going to watch at least another episode or two. The characters seemed good, though they killed off my favorite. The effects were ok, maybe a touch cheesy near the end, but not cringy. The atmosphere of the show was kind of weird too, not like crisp, not in a bad way at all but hard to describe. It's just that non-linear thing that I don't care for, which again looks like it's only in the first episode.
Is this officially an X-men thing? They talk about mutants and even have the "x" inside the "o" in the title, but nothing in the characters or dialogue or anything seemed particularly like it was out of X-men at all. More like a parody of them.
Good production values and great cast, but some bad pacing and structure problems. I understand that the maker was shooting for an "experience" from the main character's POV, but it still came off as messy. It is hard to get an audience into a story if you don't lay down any ground rules. Since I know Legions comic story, I saw what they were doing, but my wife was utterly confused and that is a problem when trying to draw in new fans.
I wish they would have been a bit more structured and introduced uncertainty as to what really happened going forward, rather than making it a chaos ball from the start.
As to continuity with the rest of the Marvel U, Legion really doesn't need any. Even in the comics, he had a nasty habit of shifting timelines and changing stuff around.
So episode 2 wasn't much better. Some development, but the problem with such an inherently unreliable narrator is that it is still very difficult to piece anything together, and there is no real incentive to do so. Maybe he is mentally ill, maybe he is a super mutant, maybe both. Who cares? We don't even know if anyone is real, so how can we be invested? No one is fleshed out as more that a sliver of a character anyway, and, at this point, the main character comes across as a rather annoying jerk face and probably psychotic.
Yeah, I was really disappointed they found a way to stick with that non-linear story telling bit. Incidentally I was super annoyed that Supernatural did an episode like that this week as well.
So this show isn't getting any better. Ironically, the costars are stealing the show and the lead comes off as kind of a rash, selfish, lying jerk. Who is also, apparently, really dangerous. Who makes everybody around him suffer. Not really a sympathetic character at all, even though they keep on with the whole Chosen One routine. At this point, I kind of wish they would just put a bullet in his head and be done with it. He reminds me a lot of the Cid from Looper.
I'm not convinced that Legion has (consciously) lied about anything yet. Except, unless maybe he murdered his ex girlfriend. But even then, he might have blotted it out...
That's me seen episode 4 now and I'm thinking the shows certainly starting to come together and, dare I saw it... beginning to have a feeling of making sense.
Spoilery stuff incoming because theorising and discussing of the plot after seeing Episode 4.
Spoiler:
It's totally think it's the Shadow King, the call out to the astral plane just makes sense. He's got a partial possession of Legion and has been stepping in at various times throughout his life. - His childhood dog (that wasn't real...) was even called 'King'... Plus that reference to a parasite...
