Two armed men have taken hostages at a church near Rouen in northern France, media reports have said.
Reuters quoted a police source as saying between four and six people were being held by the men at the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray.
A priest and two sisters, as well as churchgoers, were among those held, local media said.
France 3 television said a number of shots had been heard. Police and the emergency services are at the scene.

Muslim Martyrs are said to be rewarded 72 virgins in the afterlife if they are killed. That is rendered void(and I'm pretty sure something bad happens to them) if they are killed by a woman.

Every time a politician starts spouting off about having "real talk" about Islamic terrorism it leads to me getting my liberties trampled and revoked for the sake of a false sense of security. It's not an existential threat to the USA, we shouldn't let politicians treat it like one. It's in our vested national interest to fight for more stability in the ME and minimize the impact of radical Islam in the region but doing that should have no impact on our domestic policies and protected liberties.

At least Hollande had the decency to give a statement asap. I've not seen Merkal lately. Normally I would wonder if she's having regrets but people like her never do. Too much hubris.

Front Nationale have a hard task ahead of them, primarily because when necessary other parties will withdraw candidates to front a single alternative to them.
French elections are in two rounds of voting, When in the most recent elections FN were in the lead into two regions the main left wing party Parti Socialist withdrew its candidates and urged its voters to vote for the centre right Les Republicans (Sarkozy's party) to keep FN out.
I expect this arrangement will be reciprocated and repeated as necessary whenever FN take the lead in first round voting.
