I understand you can play basically anything you want, BUT in 8th we mostly always played 2400 points. What is the new standard to be played with the Generals Handbook? Thanks!

I think it's way too early to say that there is a standard.

The Generals Handbook lists 3 tiers of 1000, 2000 and 2500, but communities could settle on one of these or something different like 1500 points.
Of course if you settle for something in between the GH tiers, you'll need to determine the number of required battleline units.

Standard tournament size is 2000 points. Perhaps with 1000 points of additional models to create a "sideboard", but only 2000 used in each game.

2000 points = 100 SCGT pool or 20 Clash pools.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I hope there never becomes a standard. That is what ruined the game for a lot of newer players... having to build and paint up a massive 2400/2500 point force because no one would play anything but that.

That isn't a problem with a standard that's a problem with players.

Bit chicken-or-the-egg, really.

2000 is the standard I've seen, but also a decent number of 1000 and 1500 games going on too. I don't think its as locked into a certain value (or even game type) as WHFB, and that's a good thing IMO.

Depends on your area for now, it's 1000 around here but there's a 1000 points each team tournament later in the year people are preparing for.

Our local group is playing 1000 point games for now I think to make it easy for new players to join in. I'm a new player as well.
I'm not yet sure what I'd add to my 1000 point if we moved up in point. Just more savage Orruks I guess. This ? faction? within a faction seems a little limited on other options as far as I can tell.
But to be fair I haven't even tried to make a larger list.

A mix of 1k and 2k out here in sunny SLC, out of them I generally prefer 1k, it's more skirmish like.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.
