Like the title says, this is my first time going to gen con and I was wondering if there were things I should look out for that are awesome. My general interests are Star Wars Armada, Warhammer 40k, 30k, Robotech RPG (almost no chance of new stuff), and comics in general. Also, I do plan to go to the Patrick Rothfuss talk, huge fan of his book. Thanks in advance!

General first-time convention advice:

Bring hand sanitizer and use it religiously, Your immune system is in for a major shock being that close to so many other people from so many different places, and you have no idea where hands, or things have been. Wash your hands as frequently as possible, especially after eating or before you do anything like rubbing your eyes or face.

Wear comfortable shoes. You're going to be on your feet a lot most likely. Cut off potential harm by making sure you're in a good pair of shoes.

Keep hydrated. Bring a bottle of water and go to town. It's cheaper than any food or drink at the convention, plus keeping up in water is good for keeping sickness away.

There is also a thread in the Board Games, Card Games, and RPGs board about GenCon which might have some info on it as well.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Shower regularly, eat regular meals and less junk food, and keep hydrated.

Is there a permanent stickied thread for Chaos players to complain every time someone/anyone gets models or rules besides them? If not, there should be.

Bah. Where is the fun in that (these are like festivals for gaming right?).

Shower as little as you need to, drink only beer and the only non fried/sugar filled thing should be the salad on your burger.

Admittedly I work with students, so my immune system is pretty hardend to the various poxes that run round these events, and people around me not washing for days on end.

And sometimes, it's just a case of too much scotch combined with too many buttons...
