The historical supplement should be released this fall, it will not be a
KS.
It was initially planned for a while for august but was delayed, but the supplement is in theory already done and beta tested (with a small team) and only waiting for release
What is know is that it will use the same core rules as the Fantasy
KoW, but the army creation part will be where it will be different.
There will of course not be artefacts, but there might be some veteran upgrades that would play a similar role.
(it was mentionned in a early preview, but the game has since been, largely changed so it's unclear if the veteran upgrades are still there of if they have been replaced by something else.)
In any case, instead of separate factions with their own army lists, there will be a core list of generic units covering the following eras :
Antiquity. Pre 5th century AD
Early Middle Ages. The 5th to 10th centuries
High Middle Ages. The 11th, 12th and 13th centuries
Late Middle Ages. The 14th and 15th centuries
From there you will be able to use the generic list by taking appropriate units to represent your specific army, but most armies will probably be expected to use another element in the book : the themes
Each theme represent a specific nation and era, and will add restrictions and options to the generic list.
So for exemple I would not expect to see chariots units in a medieval french army and they will probably be forbidden to take them, but I would expect an ancient egyptian army to have them and maybe even get additionnal options compared to the generic list (maybe an option for elite charioteers for exemple ?)
The list of theme has already been posted by a member of the
RC, here it is :
Barbarians
Carthaginians
Chinese
Egyptians
Greeks
Huns
Indian
Macedonians & Successors
Persians
Romans
Spartans
Scythians
Thracians
Anglo-Saxons
Byzantines
Franks
Normans
Polish
Slavs
Vikings
Crusaders
Japanese
Mongols
Ottomans
English
Aztecs
Conquistadors
French
Holy Roman Empire
Scottish
Also, it has been mentionned that there would be entries for some (all ?) themes to get *optionnal* mythological units.
