Hey, I just went to my lgs and guess what I found? Two cans of Khorne Red, one can of Caliban Green, and one can of Macragge Blue spray paint, by GW, in stock. Now, this is the crazy part. When I dug deeper, I found a storage box of miniatures in mint form from about 1998. 11.99 each, they had Dark Eldar two packs, and Ork Big Mech, as well as a squad of two flamer Guardsmen. I also found a converted Orkish Land Raider missing a weapon that was available for $30 that I bought, as well as a massive Tau Titan and an Imperial Titan available for 125 and 115 respectively. Also, I found a brand new Land Raider and Tactical Squad, bundled together for $50, which I bought. Have any of you had this moment when you went to a lgs. I just wanted to ask how common this is. Do most stores have overstock like this? And also, how common are the sprays in Canada? I thought they were not available in Canada.

A few GW's hide some stock behind their storage doors that didn't sell - you can even get your hands on some of it if you ask the right people

However, Caliban Green and Macragge blue are not LE sprays like Khorne Red was

As for sprays in Canada, I have no idea why they wouldn't be available

It's true, the GW sprays normally can only be found in Black and white primers here in the great white north. However I was lucky enough to score a flesh tone can and a FLGS not too long ago while I was visiting a near by city. The name on the can reads the army painter it's pretty good stuff!

Army Painter is pretty good. Their Dragon Red is a very close match to Mephiston Red, I use it to prime my KDK stuff.

They sorta were, dependant on your area. A few cans "accidentally" made their way into Aus and Canada where they weren't meant to go due to certain import laws and they sold out in quite the hurry. Not long after, I believe the spray can packaging was able to be changed to meet our Laws (dunno about Canada) and they came in on a long term basis. I still have a can of the original Caliban (though I don't know why, I never planned on using it for anything as a basecoat...) and I went through both cans of Macragge with my Thousand Sons.

Notice the different sprays which are available in the US Online Store versus the Canadian Online Store.

I could be wrong but it may also have to do with the labels themselves here in canada everything written on the can needs to be in both English and french. it could be a reason why a lot of the colours are not available.

due to legal restrictions at the federal level games workshop isnt allowed to sell spray primers beyond their black and white, and in many provinces they need to be locked up still. in addition the cost of the import for the coluredf ones is higher for some reason so they dont think they will make money off anything that isnt corax white or chaos black

Pretty much every hobby shop, game store, or store that carries GW products has some old overstock from a ways back. GW sometimes buys that stuff back but not always, so you'll end up with a store like my local comic book store, which has a bunch of modern and new kits, but one Epic Gargant, a few metal Tyranid blisters, and a couple stands of High Elves for Warmaster just sitting in a bucket.

I imagine the laws about colored spray paint were written with graffiti in mind, not miniatures wargaming.

Some bureaucrats have no idea whatsoever about gaming stuff. Like, this one guy on YouTube who runs a World of Warcraft channel needed to get his hands on a prop gun for a video he was making about one of the classes in the game. The bureaucrat he managed to have the misfortune of talking to in the process of acquiring the prop gun legally was rather elderly and didn't use the Internet much. So when the bureaucrat asked what he needed the prop gun for, and the guy explained that he was making a video for YouTube... well, it hindered his attempt to acquire a prop gun. The bureaucraft believed that YouTube was exclusively for cute animal videos and had never been exposed to any of the other stuff available on YouTube.

Now, when you're deciding whether or not to allow a guy to have a prop gun, and he says he wants it in connection to what you believe is videos about cute animals, you're going to believe that this person is a real sicko who wants to make videos about killing cute animals. It's the natural reaction, and the fact that reality does not conform to what you believe is totally irrelevant.

And that's why it's a terrible idea to have the government in charge of things like video game ratings.

Sounds like one of the two FLGS's in my hometown. They've got several of the limited Imperial Space Marine. I picked one up for myself a couple of months ago.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Smaller LGS' often have plenty of OOP stock I've found - my shop in downtown Dubai was still selling copies of Dreadfleet 2 years after its release; most people don't even remember that board game, let alone where to buy it

But seriously, they dig out rare treasures from time to time. There use to be another shop that had even better deals (2 dollar obliterators anyone?) but the last time I went in, the deals were "members only" and membership costs like 400 a year or something.

I didn't like Hobby Kingdom that much. No discount, no second hand, and really easy to get lost on the way.

I prefer meeplemart in downtown toronto. Despite what other people say they do have legit forge world stuff, and a bunch from 3rd party stores like Kromtech and Puppets of War. Nice to buy those stuff off the shelves and without having to deal with shipping and whatnot.

Well since we are talking about hobby stores now, anyone ever go to JJ Superstore? My god the amount of stuff in that store. Not just miniature games but I swear they have EVERYTHING.

Board games, card games, toys, great store. Games I never even herd of. Models not just minis, Lego, everything.

It seems they sell their GW/PP products at US prices in Canadian funds or selling for about 30% off Canadian prices then. Great savings, just sadly way to far for me to go and I hate buying/ordering from mail.

Also now I shop at my FLGS. Devils Bench in Brantford. Yes I get no savings, but at least I can get games now. No amount of savings can replace not getting in any games.

So I guess it's a good trade of instead of trying to save $50. Save $50 and get no games, or have no savings and play games now. Great guys running the store as well, so I think it's well worth every penny.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Forbes Hobbies in Cambridge has now started offering discounting for Gdubs products.

Also has 40k nite every thursday - usually get about 4-5 games going.

We hold tournaments every month or 2.'

J&J's is great because they have so much in stock and the discount. Forbes will order whatever you want and usually it comes in on thurs/fridays.

Also Forbes carries the full line of Vallejo paints - the ww2 paints, game colour, talking of getting model air. Also the store has tones of models for other games as well as cars, planes, WW2 etc..., boardgames, huge magic card inventory as well. Magic is Fridays - usually 50+ people there.
