Hello,

I have a game tomorrow against Orcs. But I have no really experience in how to fight against them. What I expect is: a lot fast moving vehicles and a low. Probably a big walker.

I thought maybe switching the EWO from Broadsides to some target locks. The commander joins the broadsides of course. The rest of the list is self explaining I think.

My concernes are that I have no crisis suits. Should I swap to the dawn blade detachment?

Is this list good how it is? Where are the weak spots? And can it hold itself against an very experienced Orc player?

Thx a lot and best regards.

Chris

How competitive are you guys playing? Most of the ork LoWs suck really hard, so I wouldn't worry about them much.

Personally, I'd drop one of the piranhas, and drop the PEN, which should get you enough for a fireblade to stick with the strike team. Also, the breachers are meh vs orks imo because they don't have very many 3+ save units, which is what the breachers are best at hunting, and pulse carbines have better range and pinning if you really want a closer range "assault" unit. After that, I'd swap out the MP turrets for SMS turrets to prevent mixing of roles in the strike teams.

I'd swap the burst cannon for a fusion blaster on the ghostkeel and have it put HP damage on higher AV targets like battle wagons (you could also go with the fusion collider too, but the ion raker is pretty good). I'd also drop the razorshark and go with the drone formation for another squad of marker drones. To compliment them, it wouldn't hurt to have the commander with a drone controller and a target lock to give them BS5, and then still be able to shoot at targets with his MPs. (drop the shield gen, and you should still have 119pt left over). IMO, target locks > EWO if you're going for max missile damage on the broadsides, simply because you can split the fire instead of massively overkilling one target.

I also like the dawnblade more simply because I get more suits to play with in it, and you don't have to combine fire to get the most out of it, but hunter cadre also gives you more mobility (run then shoot and 12" supporting fire). Both are good formations though imo.

But really, it comes down to how competitive both of you are planning on playing.

I created another list, but this time a dawn blade cadre. Which of those would you take? Any advice for this list?

The retaliation cadre should drop down on turn two on key locations. The other half of my army should hold the line in the meantime. But with that firepower this should be no problem. What are you thinking?

Fusion suits work best solo, as suicide deepstrikers, and I'd say drop the counterfire defense systems, and go with TLs. For the stormsurge, drop the advanced targeting system and EWO. The only thing orks can deepstrike suck iirc, and are incredibly easily klilled. As there's no need for the 'vre with the broadsides

Also, twin linked BS5 is generally a waste, drop it and the XV81 suit, the SMS on it is way overpriced. Go with 2 non twinlinked MPs on him instead..

Here's what I came up personally for 2500 as more of a TAC list as a dawnblade:

Retaliation cadre (910)
1x 3 man Broadsides, 3x missile drones, 2x target locks
1x Commander w/ 2x marker drones, iridium suit, 2x MP, drone controller, TL
1x Riptide w/ IA, Stimms
1x 3 man Crisis w/ advanced targeting system, 2x MP
2x 1 man Crisis w/ 2x fusion blaster

Drone Network (280)
5x 4 man marker drone squads

(not part of the dawnblade below, but as separate formations themselves)
Tau Infiltration Cadre (550)
1x Piranha w/ 2x seekers, Fusion blaster
3x 6 man pathfinder squads w/ recon drone
2x 3 man stealth suits with 1x fusion blaster and 2 advanced targeting systems on burst cannons

OSC (754)
1x 2 man ghost keel w/ ion raker, stimms, fuision blasters
2x 6 man stealth suits, 4 advanced targeting systems on burst cannons, 2x Fusion Blasters

Pretty much the goal is a near null deploy and going second, leaving the infil cadre on the board (and broadsides if you wish), with the piranha threatening any target with 2x seekers and a FB shot, in addition to extra markerlight seeker missile hits. If the piranha dies, everything comes on during your next turn, in addition to providing locator beacons for units to drop around. OSC is there to help kill any high threat AV targets (i.e. battlewagons, trucks with lootas) before they get a chance to move anything very far, or the squads of stealthsuits can focus on anything protected by an IC (like a lucky stick warboss with a group of lootas), and hit the targets he's protecting (applies to anything with the ATS really though). Retal cadre is pretty typical, couple of suicide FB suits to distract the enemy, and burn some of their vehicles (getting a +3 on the damage chart for each pen vs any open topped vehicle), while the MP suits again, can focus on transports or killing things protected by an IC by slipping wounds past him, and the broadsides should pretty much mulch anything.

Still have 9pt to spend however you want, but if you also wanted a SS in there, you could drop the infil cadre, and one of the OSC's stealth suit squads to a 3man team (2x ATS and 1x FB) and put this in instead:

Tau CAD (658)
1x Cadre Fireblade
1x 12 man fire warrior team w/ SMS turret
1x 5 man fire warrior team w/ SMS turret
1x KV128 Stormsurge w/ Shield Generator, Pulse Driver Cannon

Toss in a neuroweb jammer on the commander to fill in the last 2pt

With this, it's more about a fire base than null deploying obviously. Driver cannon because 72" S10 AP2 > 10" SD imo, as he still has his destroyer missiles he can use. Extra horde firepower comes from the cadre + 12man fire warrior team, turning almost any area into a no go zone for orks who aren't in a battlewagon pretty much.
