Boosting Ultramarine Biker
|
So I have a casual game coming up this weekend and I'm planning on dropping a Tervigon on one of my opponents flanks while my horde advances up the middle and hive tyrants flies about causing chaos. Hopefully with some luck, I can spawn a sizeable brood of gaunts to make a little mini-army for my opponent to deal with.
Have any of you tried this combination before? Should I try droping something else? I only have one Tyrannocyte. I do really want to use it as I have just finished painting it up.
I am unsure if my friend is bringing orks, dark elder, or space marines (salamanders).
Thanks for any help.

I've fought against it before, normally paired up with a carnifex coming out of the tryannocyte to attack high value threats. It's not uncommon, and a lot of regular players will know what's coming when you pull them out of the case. Doesn't mean that you can't do well with it though.

Arm with Electrogrubs and Miasma cannon. Drop, spawn gaunts, shoot dbl template, then run gaunts back in front of tervigon to prevent being assaulted. Pretty pricey though. That and a Tyrannofex with dbl template really gives open topped vehicles a bad day.
But as you have one i'd throw Tfex in. Simply because it's more survivable than a Tervigon, cheaper, and is less of a priority as the Tervigon will pouring out many Gaunts a turn!
You don't need to declare what you're dropping in till deployment so you can adjust. As i wouldn't want to drop a lonely Tfex with all those power claws about!

Works well. Did it in my last game, spawned 3 broods, distracted a Knight all game.

I think it really depends on what you were style is. If you have a lot of objective takers, dropping a double template Tfex will really give you more bang for your buck, as he does more damage when he comes down, and is harder to take out. Personally, though, I have yet to run a game without dropping my tervigon in a tcyte, & I love it. I usually make the tervigon a troops slot by bringing 30 more gaunts, that way the Tervigon herself can secure objectives easier. Its scary. Having to deal with a horde on you are front, and a horde pincering you on the side.

It's cheaper and easier just to give your Hive Tyrant Hive commander and outflank the Tervigon instead. Costs way less but not nearly as accurate I suppose.

Sure, hive commander can have it outflank, but without acute senses its a lesser chance to get it near where you want. And you're SOL if you need him midfield when he comes in.
Another thing to consider is that the pod itself can score, and is a huge model. Distraction and damage are key. With the Russian doll strategy of tcyte, tervigon, gaunts, you can extend your footprint a mile wide, and completely negate the impact of a bad scatter (especially now that spawned gaunts can count as obsec)
