Subject: Best one unit in a box for a multiplayer game

My LGS is running an interesting AoS event - participants buy a box of AoS minis and then build them to participate in a free for all. Last one standing wins.
Size of table probably a 6 by 4, possibly 4 by 4.
What would be the best one box you could buy? I was thinking about a prince on a dragon as I always wanted to play Aelves. Btw summoning is not allowed.
Thanks for the help!

Mourngul.
The unliving embodiment of why Forgeworld shouldn't be allowed anywhere near rule writing.

Interesting - what is so strong about Mourngul's?

3+ Sv that ignores rend.
I'd suggest Kurnoth Hunters wth Bows. If it's a free for all, you don't want to be anywhere near the middle of the fighting. 3 Hunters with bows do a reasonable amount of damage at great range (30" 4 shots at 4/3/-1/d3 and 2 at 3/3/-1/d3) and would be great at picking off what you perceive as the biggest target. That's what I'd do.

And -ve to hit modifiers, and it heals in combat, and gets a save against any failed /mortal wounds... Ugh.
But yeah, Bow K'unters a good shout.

Hopefully you won't encounter someone who decided to get Archaon. So if you're expecting to fight a lot of Heroes, maybe get someone with a bonus against them.

Tomb King scarab swarm. Stay burrowed and troll the game!
More honestly, if its a free for all then a massive model like Archaeon isn't a good move -- he'll get ganged up on and offed pretty quick. You need something both powerful enough to get work done but also un-threatening enough not to scare people. Something that people don't realize how strong it is will be ideal.
My advice? Verminlord Deciever. His spell lets him teleport anywhere on the map (to get away from everyone!) and he's strong enough to finish off what's left towards the end.

Some very good ideas here. What do you guys think of Malekith? He can heal back wounds and effectively has 28 wounds because all damage is halved.
What has longer range than Kurnoth Hunters? Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually thinking about it, the best unit is one that can do a lot of damage at range e.g. 24" plus but can also reposition quickly i.e. high move or can fly.
What units fulfil these criteria? Help much appreciated!

Orion?
Move 12, 24" bow (6/3/3/-1/1) and a 12" spear (1/3/3/-2/d3) and handy in combat with 4 3/3/-2/3dmg attacks. He can dispel, heals a wound each turn, re-rolls charges and 1's to wound in combat. 8 Wounds and a 4+ save. Kurnoth Hunters would kill him due to their ranged advantage, but Orion is much faster and a more credible threat in combat. He is also a small enough model to not look to intimidating. Zip around shooting people before charging into the brawl with a deceptively powerful melee profile.

Good idea Alex. Do you think Archaon would be able to catch up with Orion while he runs and shoots arrows? Sounds like he probably would be able to. I guess the key is to be as non-threatening as possible so you dont get ganged up! Automatically Appended Next Post: What unit is super tough defensively in AoS? Mourngul's look good - any others that are very tough to kill. i.e. has modifiers to the to-hit roll and also has an additional save?

If you want to go all defensive, Eternal guard, If you can get them into cover especially. Their fortress of boughs gives them +1 to hit, wound and save. In cover you can re-roll failed save rolls of 1 or 2.

Defensively tough from one box? May i humbly submit the Arboyz box. A little slow (unless you are using Alliance traits) but if you kit them all out with shields you have 15 models rocking 30 wounds, a 4+ save and a 6+ ignore save. They are also decently brave once you get into combat (base bravery 6, +2 for the banner, and a special save of 6 versus battleshock). They also kick out decent damage with 30 attacks that are 4+/3+/-/1 so not shabby.
Also you have the advantage that compared to somebody like Archaon you should like comparatively un-threatening.

Iron gutz they are the best....(i like them) they have a good save multipul wounds, 3 attacks each with a rend and 3 damage per wound, they are also fairly fast and brave as well and in a single box you get 4 with the rune banner as well, sure its not as good as it was but still gives them some magic protection.
A very good unit over all.

Take a few Lord of Plagues. Then laugh as he gets a wound back in every hero Phase... It it's a free for all with lots of people... oh my...
Edit: Bummer it's a single unit. A bunch of these guys would be hilarious for it.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Stormfiends
1x Grinderfists
1x Warpfire Projectors
1x Shock Gauntlets
Tunnel them and wait it out. When everything is almost done emerge with em and take out the rest. They'll be hard to take down and they'll do a ton of damage each.
Make sure you don't wait too long fyi in case you fail a roll or two.

What suggestions would you guys have if the objective was to cause the most number of wounds over a multiplayer game rather than to survive?
Much appreciated!
