Its only been a week (I think) since the release of B.C.R and I'm wondering the opinion of my fellow AOS Peers on their status in comparison to other AoS Armies, and any concerns they have of the Army itself.
I personally think the B.C.Rs are beyond stronk, having access to the amazingly, rage-inducing, formation: Beastclaw Avalanche (Which you should only use against people who use Nagash, and Kroak) . Not to mention the Mournfags making every other heavy Cav unit the game look autistic, and B.C.R's access to ,delectably, the most OP monster in the game: The Thundertusk.
Any thoughts on the army?

Monsters in matched play tend to be overpowered.
Beastclaw raiders is an army of monsters.
But beyond the obvious, GW really did not account for the synergy of multiple thundertusks and/or stonehorns working together. Most monsters don't work as well when taken in multiples, but the beastclaw ones do better in groups. Couple that with an allegiance which allows you to take them easily and grants further benefits for doing so and they become dramatically OP. Just do the ole' discuss-with-your-opponent (which you should really be doing with matched play anyways) because the GHB points are not a magic bullet which balances everything, or even comes close.

From a numbers standpoint they sit at the very top of the damage output scale, and they are also able to soak up a lot of damage.
If you check out the data for the power indicies I am putting out ( www.louisvillewargaming.com/Files/AOS%20Stats.pdf) you can see that by their raw stats they are a solid "A" army list.
Also as Ninth points out, the SCGT/ GW "official points" are very efficient for monsters (read: potentially OP to OP due to their cost being lower than what they should be) and you have a list that in the hands of a min/maxer will be great in competitive environments, and nightmares in "for fun" environments.

In a way I suppose you could say the BCR are like the imperial knights. Few in number, can be really strong, but each loss is felt really heavily and they would struggle holding objectives. They're also seemingly a straight forward to play army which I feel would hold them back as counters are found that they'd be unable to respond back to well.

Having been on the receiving end of a Thundertusk/Stonehorn horde in an SCGT pools tournament game, where I was wiped off the board by the second turn, I utterly dread meeting the Avalanche in any future matched play games. No fun at all!

Yeah I've seen that formation almost turn an entire battle. Huge multiplayer game, 3 vs 3, yet his army accounted for virtually all of the Chaos kills.
Off top of my head he killed
* Stardrake
* 7 Kurnoth hunters
* Durthu
* 20+ Dryads
We did kill a large number of his monsters with some Paladins and massed shooting. The other Sylvaneth player did a good job pinning them in place with some Dryads. But yeah we lost a lot of soldiers. Just complete mortal wound spam and then they get their attacks.
Worse was that the guy was proxying his entire army which I really didn't like. I also genuinely think he came in on the Sunday the campaign ended and won the club for destruction. So there you go.

Question about beastclaw raiders battletome.
If I want to use the artifacts and special abilities do i have to run one of the warscroll battlions or is there like a 1-3 HQ 1-5 BL or something? I'm new to AOS and thought i found this in the battle tome but wasn't sure...

Does beastclaw avalanche have points value? If it doesn't, at least we don't need to worry about countering it in matched play.

To use the artifacts and abilities you have to run Beastclaw allegiance, which means every single model in your army must be from the Beastclaw faction. But that's it.
Yup.

Thank you!
Follow up question, I've seen people mention if you take X as HQ you can take X as battle line (like icebrow hunter unlocks yeties as batleline or something) where do I find that and other restrictions for making a none battalion army? Do I need the generals handbook for that? Right now I only have the battletome, but I know there's like a similar thing to a CAD in 40k. I can use right?

Heros don't unlock units as battle line. Taking all units from a specific faction does unlocks units as battle line. If you take the beastclaw raiders as your faction then units are unlocked

Actually Namiel, that's incorrect. Several armies have units that unlike as Battleline IF a certain hero is their General.
Flesh Eaters can take several different units as battleline if their General is the corresponding Courtier, for example.

Correct. Its also true for Beastclaw Raiders (e.g., Icefall Yhetees are only Battleline if your general is a Frostlord on a Thundertusk).

Beastclaws are probably one of the strongest armies in the game right now, though it really depends on what you play. Behemoths are super valuable, but if you play an army that can quickly remove them or has tarpitty tarpits, they feel slightly less crushing.
As far as casual army building goes, for your people showing up for game night with the models they thought looked good, Beastclaw Allegiance players will win those games easily. For the stuff that's turning into the "meta", I think they're able to be dealt with.
