So when KDK first came out, I and many others thought that it would kick off a Tetrad of books for each Chaos god to have a Daemon + CSM army
But it's been too long for that to be true. There were rumors for a while about Tzeentch DK, but that seems to have morphed into the AoS Silver Tower game

So what happened? Was KDK supposed to be the first of 4 books and GW was "testing the water"? Did KDK not do as well as they hoped so they scrapped the rest?
Or was KDK always supposed to be a stand-alone army? The fluff would seem to suggest this as Khorne followers are the most likely to follow the Blood gods will and manage to call forth and sustain a host of Daemons.
It also made sense to give Khorne a boost in-game since mono-Khorne was the most limited of all 4 mono-builds (due to no access to psychic powers). The Bloodtithe seems to balance this.

It feels weird to have a CSM codex with all 4 gods, a Daemon codex with all 4, and a CSM/Daemon hybrid codex for just 1.

It's widely reported that it was to support the 40K inclusion of the new Bloodthirster, so, in the face of outright denial by solid rumour wranglers as to the prospect of any others, it is likely a one off.

Probably just a one-off, which is an issue with GW books as there usually is little or no consistency in what gets released other than like every other release being Space Marines of some flavor. It would have made sense to have a "Quarter of Chaos" or similar, but for whatever reason they don't want to do things logically like that and seem to toss out random codexes.

At least they stopped at one I guess. Imagine how awkward it would be if they had done Khorne, Tzeentch & Nurgle, but then never did a Slaanesh Daemonkin.

I had also heard that the Glotkin/Maggot Lords released during the End Times were originally designed to be a plastic Great Unclean One, but when plans got scrapped, they altered the designed to what they are now. Not sure if that's true.

I don't think there will be more. Summoning and other physic is what is keeping daemons a decent codex in 7th. Khorne daemons don't have access to that so they needed another way of summoning etc. The other 3 flavours of chaos daemons are ok.

Pretty much this. Mono-Khorne was the weakest and they wanted to sell the new Bloodthirster kit, so they killed two birds with one stone.

I was hoping that Khorne Daemonkin would be popular enough, they would be tempted to cash in and release a book for each Chaos Faction.

The suboptimal situation of not being able to assault after being summoned, kind of knee capped the biggest selling point of that faction.

Wouldn´t suprise me if there wouldn´t be an 8th ed KDK Codex. That way you have to buy two more codexes if you wanna play 8th ed Chaos. Atleast thats how I would do it.

Or you can just keep buying chaos everything, and not play them. Just sit alone in your room for years, painting and detailing, and detailing some more. Then keep doing that for years until you own upwards of 10000 points of chaos. Keep shining their swords and sharpening their knives. Then some day, some wonderful day, when a new book comes out that will realize your armies' potential, come out from hiding. Everyone will have thought you had left warhammer 40k for good, but no, you had been training, preparing, and brooding for this moment. Return with such vengeance and hatred that you will not hold back, and you will destroy everything in your path. Like a true chaos crusade, wait for the right moment, then burst forth from the Eye of Terror and unleash your pain on the whole universe. And when they cry and complain that you are OP and that it's not fair. Reassure them that it's true. It isn't fair, but it's what they DESERVE. All of them, each and every one of them deserve to be obliterated into oblivion. And if they ask you to play with a fluffy army, tell them you will do so. But on game day bring the meanest nastiest, ugliest army you can. Give them no opportunity for victory, give them no opportunity for enjoyment. Your only goal is to inflict as much pain and suffering as possible. And when they cry, and they will cry, laugh at them, drink their salty tears, and bath in their sweet, sweet blood.

It was a testing of the waters to see if people would buy mono-god all-in-one dex. Which they didn't, on the whole, once they found out it was the exact same units thrown together, and the weakest god to boot, and the fact anyone who still had CSM and Daemons of Khorne was probably retired or had both dexes already. Not to mention anyone knew starting would get pure Daemons as CSM suck period.

So in truth it was a one-off because they will look at the sales and think "No way ever again."
