Without flaming me, is there a gargantuan or even just a regular creation formula from GW for regular or Apocalypse 40k? Seems like they should attempt at making one. I though a few years ago they had a "build a creature/vehicle" chart but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

The problem with the chart is that costs need to be adjusted to reflect other options on the chart to the point that you can't really use it on paper (a gun should be more expensive for a higher-BS model, for instance).

The 3e vehicle chart SemperMortis is mentioning, for instance, let you stick a railgun on a BS4 Tau flyer with armour 10 all round for under a hundred points. Edge-case min/maxxing tends to produce silly results.

Creating a gargantuan creature the longhand way should be easy enough; figure out what you want it to do, write a rough set of stats, compare it to similarly-scaled things to get an approximate price, and then toss it up here for comment.

Well here is my agenda. My son was wanting to make a Fenrisian Imperial Guard unit ( like the ones mentioned in the Battle of the Fang) and he wanted to have a mastodon(the wooly kind) transport for the troops. I was thinking the closest thing might be the squiggoth. Any thoughts?

There is a Big Squiggoth (180pts, 15 model transport, MC) in Imperial Armour Apocalypse as well as the more well-known Gargantuan Squiggoth (525pts, 20 model transport, GC), depending on how big the model you're planning on using is one of those would be a better starting point than the other. From a costing/gameplay standpoint I'd think you'd want to go with the GC one with more transport capacity and fewer guns than the Gargantuan Squiggoth.

Going to riff off the Gargantuan Squiggoth for a bit.

Fenrisian Mammoth (450pts)
WS 2, BS 3, S 10, T 8, W 8, I 1, A 5, Ld 7, Sv 4+. Gargantuan Creature, 1 Mammoth.
Special Rules: Trample (d3+1 HoW hits), Gargantuan Transport (transports 40 models as if it were an open-topped super-heavy vehicle. Follows all the normal rules when transporting is concerned, but has no other vehicle type rules).
Wargear: 2x twin-linked heavy bolter, Gorgon mortar (48"/S4/AP6/Heavy 4/Blast/Barrage)
Options: May purchase an Icarus autocannon (twin-linked Skyfire/Interceptor autocannon) for +30pts.

Lythrandire's critter design rules don't have all of this, but what he does have listed puts this at about 400pts before adding the trample rule and the Gorgon mortar, so I'm going to say I guessed reasonably well.
