Subject: Suggestions for 'Tank' brushes.

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a bunch of brushes to paint a tank - a Land raider to be specific. As this is the first major tank (aside from a Rhino) I've painted, I'm in need of some sutiable brushes to paint it with. I normaly use W&N Series 7 to paint my SM's, but obviously they'd get ruined pretty quickly painting a whole Land Raider. With that in mind can anybody suggest a good quality, reasonably priced brush or set of brushes that I could paint a tank with. To clarify, I'm not particularly fussy as to whether they are sable or not - In this case I think synthetic may be best as they are more durable.
All suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I painted my son's necron doomscythe with a couple art brushes, one was a filbert about size 6 I think. The other just a standard brush. I did also get a large round one to use as well. I mostly used the filbert for some drybrushing and the other two, straight edge and round for the majority of the painting. I just bought some new, medium priced synthetics when they went on sale at Michael's. Other than that I just used a 2 for most of the main detail work on it.
*edit* I can't recall the brands but pretty sure one was a galeria (one of W&Ns lines).

Flat brushes are definitely easier to work with than round for doing tanks in my experience. Long bristled flat for laying down layers and short bristles for drybrushing. A large one (6-8mm) for the big stuff, and a smaller one (3-5mm) for details works great for me.
If you're only planning on doing one tank a single long bristle 4-5mm flat would be fine, if you're doing several you might want to invest in all of the above.
Oh, and I prefer a "straight" flat before a filbert. The corner bristles will make it easier to get the paint into all the nooks and crannies.
These ones are nice: http://www.rosemaryandco.com/acrylic-brushes/ivory-acrylic/ivory-long-flats
Either a size 0 and a 2, or a 1 and a 3 works great.

I just go to the local discount shop or poundland and buy a big pot of brushes for £1.00. Cut the tip off so you have a big fat short bristled brush and dry brush away ;D

@Guildenstern and Oguhmek - Thanks for the replies! Judging by both of your responses, I'm looking for something in the size range of a 2 or 3 round and a large flatbrush. I prefer W&N, so I'll look into the Galeria, but I do like the look of those Rosemary & Co ones as they're quite reasonably priced. Many thanks you two.
@PossumCraft - I never quite trust cheap brushes (I've had a bad experience with Citadel brushes - which are intended to be purposely designed for miniatures!). That said, I also need a new drybrush at some point, so I may just go and get some cheap ones and cut them up, rather than pay out of the nose for a brush that's going to get destroyed anyway. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have a size 18 red sable large brush that I got on eBay for like a dollar. It's a big flat brush. It works very well for painting large flat surfaces (tanks, drop pods, etc).

Paint it with your fingers But really a cheap 1 inch brush. make sure you paint wet on wet and 2-3 coats. pick out the fibers if it comes off.

I've just started painting up a Stonehorn and decided to put my airbrush down and follow along with a recent tutorial video that GW put up for the model (well, one of the variants you can make with the same kit).
For base coating the skin and fur, I've been using the GW 'xl' Base brush, and it's been great so far. Has a nice angle to the brush with one side of it going to a bit of a point for getting into the nooks and crannies, and the nice big head has been putting the paint on really smoothly.
You can pick it up for 25% off online, so it isn't too dear.
I'd defo say it was worth a try, though obviously my view is based on fairly limited use so far

@Bi' los - Could I inquire as to how wide a size 18 is? I was thinking along the lines of 10mm would be ideal.
@Desubot - Or my tongue? Thanks for the suggestion.
@Bellyfluff - I've had GW brushes in the past and whilst it may have been my own inexperience, they wore out pretty quickly. That said, thanks for the heads-up, because I'll check them out anyway should I not find anything else to my liking.

It's around 3/4 an inch, so it's a little bigger than 10mm, but not a ton bigger
