So I've decided to start 30k.. I'm definitely going traitor legion.. The only question is which one? I've narrowed it down to these three.. Alpha Legion, Emperors Children, and Death Guard. I'll explain my interest in each..

Alpha Legion: fluff wise my favorite legion. I absolutely love their story and the dual primarch aspect.. Their color scheme and "hydra" type theme is epic. My only turn off is the fact that they haven't gotten a full release yet and so it's mostly spamming Tacticals with nothing very special to boast with.

Emperors children: absolutely gorgeous models! Fulgrim is epic as is the special models for this army! Close combat oriented. Sure, not the strongest or most popular, but dang if those sculpts aren't gorgeous! As well as the paint jobs!

Death guard: absolutely what I love! Terminators, terminators, terminators! This was why I played grey knights for so so long! Their models are also beautiful, and they aren't afraid to foot slog it up the field not caring what's thrown at them! The different ways to take a complete army of terminators all with different roles is so appeAling!

Now Dakka.. This is where I need your help.... What to choose!!! What do I begin to collect? Where do I start? So many options! Pleas help!

Since it's 30k, I'd say fluff is the most important. So if the Alphas are your favourite in that aspect, go for that. However, I did still vote for the EC, because realistically, you will be looking at them more you will be thinking if fluff, so having nice models to look at is probably most important logically. They both have a lovely colour scheme though...

My ONLY problem with alpha legion is their lack of any model base. It's simply only upgrade sprues for now. I know that'll change, just hasn't yet. Emperors children are awesome.. I see death guard is getting next to no love lol!

Well, they do have Dynat and the Headhunters - it's not as bad as the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons. I voted Alphas, because you like their fluff most.

While I know AL players are anxious for Alpharius and Lernaean Terminators, I think the 'base' of the army is still there in terms of models. Functionally speaking, 30K is less about the special snowflake units (half of them are poor on the tabletop) and more about the basic stuff in the army list and tailoring to your legion's special rules.

If AL is where your heart is, then you should do that IMO. It's hard enough pushing through painting an army you love. If you only like it...well, that's where army projects grind to a halt.

I'd go for AL if they're you're favourite and their rule situation could be worse.

With the changes to pnts and legion rules in the last books you have effectively chosen three of the strongest legions and each one of them plays completely different if you use the legion advantages.
However you said you were more into alphas so go for it, my preference is for EC as out of the 3 its the legion ive built.

Go Alpha Legion with the Coils of the Hydra RoW and use Rewards of Treason to grab a special Emperor's Children or Death Guard unit. Best of both worlds

While personally not a huge fan of the Death Guard, I do love the look of a dirty DG army, but if Alpha's are your favorite fluffwise you should go for them.

You love termis, but as you already played termis "for so long" maybe you want to change, so I voted Alpha (because of the fluff preference you have).
You aren't going t buy a full army in 3 months, so the Alpha Legion will be released more and more every month / year, while you collect them.

Paradoxically, the Alpha legion tactics include lot of Termies infiltrating (the Learnean).
