I think I am the odd one out. By that I mean I really hate detailed, and intricate bases on models.

I am not saying they look bad....quite the opposite. There are some that look amazing, but just look so out of place. Watching some batreps and whatnot and you see an army with detailed grassy bases being used on a desert landscape or a rocky base on a city landscape, etc. etc.. Looks silly to me.

Anyway...any suggestions on a very generic, neutral colored and simple way to base my army? Basics.

I was leaning towards just fine sand dry brushed grey or brown. Is there an even easier way?

Paint the plastic base neutral green, brown or grey maybe

Some people base on clear plastic disks. Never mis-match with the table again.

Wow. Never even thought of that. Such a cool idea.

That's what I've been using, the Litko ones. Though mine are mostly 25mm or 30mm bases. Here's an example: http://adventuresinminiaturegaming.blogspot.com/2016/06/warhammer-quest-beastmen.html

I really like it. Though you do have to finish painting/varnishing them first, then remove them from their normal base to glue on the clear one.

Those look like them. I don’t use them personally, but follow some bloggers here that do. GrimDork comes to mind, but there are probably others. Here is one of his galleries with some examples.

Thanks much for the replies.

Its funny that I check Dakka daily, yet I still come across things that I have not seen before!

Awesome stuff.

Now...the trick will be removing my current guys that are plastic glued off their current bases.

Just use white glue on fine, colored sand. You can buy Woodland Scenics, or, save some money and go to the garden store and get it for really cheap. The hobby stuff is nice though, less dusty, and frankly, a $20 shaker will last you a lifetime of bases.

Woodland Scenics also sells dual color mix sand, where it's already nicely mixed.

Vaxx, I'm actually with you 100% as far as subtle basing goes. My take on basing is that it should be subtle and help the model blend in with the table. That's why I can't stand black-rimmed bases which do the exact opposite. I also dislike characters leaping off inches of cork, or stuff like the Assassins with gigantic plinths of stone or wreckage as their base. Don't worry, you're not alone!

I personally don't love clear bases, but that's for several silly reasons.

If you're going to go with a colour, just pick something subtle, neutral and simple. Drab-esque greens, and beiges are pretty easy to mix in almost anywhere. I don't use slottabases, as I prefer simple thin disks from Renedra. I don't think you can go wrong with a simple green/brown base with some texture and a highlight.
