I've been having major connection problems to dakka from my home computer... to the point where I can't post and most times can't even read posts from there. This started when I changed internet providers last week, so it's logical to assume that the problems are connected to the switch. That being said, I'd like to post what I've been able to deduce here, in case on of the dakka technical experts might be able to give me some useful advice.
The specific problems have been as follows:
1. I can usually view lists of threads (most popular, subscribed, etc.), but when I try to get to the actual thread page, I get an error.
2. Occasionally, I can actually get to the thread content, but whenever I try to do anything... I get an error, or signed out, or both.
This means I can't post, can't upload pictures and most of the time can't even view thread content.
Here's what I know...
- the problem started immediately after getting a new provider (Huges Net... satellite internet provider) Our old provider was also satellite based (we live in the boonies, so it's our only option)
- since the switch, my router is indicating that there is an issue with the signal... HOWEVER I have yet to find any other internet application or web site that has a problem with my computer... so far, it's just DakkaDakka. It also doesn't appear that any of the other devices in the house are having problems.
- the issue is clearly linked to my computer only, but login doesn't matter (i.e. my son has the same problems on dakka that I do)
- browser doesn't matter, tried using Explorer rather than Chrome... same problem... even worse because in Explorer the graphics don't show up... so the page is all white with lines of text and occasional links, etc. Still, posting gets me booted.
- problem is inconsistent... in some cases I can't even view a blog page without generating an error, at other times I can view blog pages but any attempt to post gets me booted
- clearing the cache, etc. had no effect
- the entire system, from router to computer has been shut off and re-started sequentially with no effect
- to my knowledge... no other significant changes or updates have occurred within my computer
Any ideas, suggestions or directions that I might give when I call them to send out a technician would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
