Looking for some advice from people who are good with the Chaos meta. I'm putting together a CSM army with Daemon allies...likely mono-Nurgle but I may branch out at some point. Basically what I am considering for my heavy armor is either a Forgehost formation (3x Soul Grinders) or a Daemon Allied Detachment using a single Soul Grinder and attaching a Chaos/Renegade Knight. Both options price out around 550-600 points depending on wargear.

The core of the army will be built around Chaos Marines primary CAD using Typhus with Zombies and Plague Marines for troops.

I've never played a knight, so am I better with that or 2 more Soul Grinders? The Forgehost also has the special rule that if a model causes an unsaved wound, others in the formation get to re-roll hits and wounds for the turn...which could be quite powerful and makes Warp Gaze much more viable. Opinions/suggestions welcome, thanks!

Generally 2x Soulgrinders is more useful to Daemons that 1 Knight. This is because it provides 2 CC threats that can aid the other Daemon CC units, rather than just 1 big CC threat that doesn't really need help.
However since you are primarily using CSM, I might go with the Knight/Grinder rather than the Forge Host. CSM benefit much more by having a Knight since they do not have as many good/fast CC units as Daemons do.

CSM also benefit from a Knight with 2 Gatling guns because they don't have much firepower either... 3 Soul Grinders (especially Nurgle ones in cover) can be pretty awesome too though.

Pretty darn good, especially with lash tendrils. Their only downside (and I have done this in multiple games) is being Immobilized.

Interesting points. I think it will come down to whether I want to take the full Daemon detachment for the Troops or just the Forgehost.

I hadn't considered the Maulerfiend mostly because it only has one role and is easier for the enemy to play around or focus-fire (especially in a Nurgle army). I can deep strike a Nurgle Grinder or sit it in cover and force somebody to come get it.

Or it just might be more fun to model a Knight instead of 2 more Grinders...
