Subject: 4th Ed Schaeffers Last Chancers now legal again?

Ok, so I mentioned this is a previous thread but didn't really get a response to the query as the thread was addressing another army.
As the Draft FAQ and the WD Article several months back basically state that you can pretty much take models and units from any of the outdated publications, would this not allow for the 4th Ed Schaeffer Last Chancers to be legal again or even the Catachan specific codex? What about using the 5th Ed Imperial Guard codex with the Behemoth rule for Leman Russ' or Griffon/2x Basilisks with accurate bombardment?

As long as your opponent is OK with it, then you're good to go. That's basically the official line to pretty much anything in the game btw.
I'd expect that most opponents would have a level of expectation that you are using the latest rules however, so anything outside of that might be met with hesitance.

That's what I play. I'm an Imperial Guard player, so says my Codex.

In that specific case, Schaeffer's own rules has two caveats: His squad must replace something called a "Hardened Veteran Squad" in your army and you and your opponent both have to agree on the use of Special Characters.
Not making this up, it's actually in his rules.
Snark aside, while if your opponent agrees with you it is permitted, you'll need a specific playgroup and let them rule on it. That FAQ was specifically because the new Ork supplement axed a lot of fan favourite formations. As a response to this, I know a few tournaments now that have a list of legal publications, so if your unit falls onto one of those then tough luck. On casual games, don't get offended if people dislike you cherrypicking the best rules to use and refuse to play.
I however would play you, but don't get mad at me when I bring in my 3.5 ed Daemon Prince who has 6's across the board and ignores all saves, pre-errata Oblits with T and S5, and all of the other crazy shenanigans that codex was capable of >:3

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do. |

I've forgotten that CSM used to be good...
You could use the Last Chancers, but IMHO as you'd probably have to update/interpret the rules a lot t'd be just as easy to homebrew them.

Not true. Colonel Schaefer counts as anHQ choice. If there are more than 8 models in the unit it ALSO counts as a Troop choice and if more than 16 models it counts as an HQ and two Troop choices.
Those are his actual rules according to Codex Imperial Guard 2003 page 54.

You can do whatever you want. You could play 40k using a Flames of War Italian Mid-War army and an algorithm to swap stat lines. The question is whether you can find someone to play against.
