Hi, my mate wants to start playing dispossessed but as I've never seen them on the table in AoS I haven't a clue what he should put in them. What would be in a good/competitive duardin list?
Thanks

So this is my first time looking at the GHB costs for Dispossessed and... wow, they really got screwed. Horrendously overcosted across the board. I'm sorry to say this but I have to recommend that your friend run them counts-as something else (Fyreslayers or Legion of Azgorh), or just pick a different army entirely. With some top-notch optimization you might be able to squeeze a decent list out of Dispossessed but its definitely an underdog army.

Alternatively use PPC, but I know many groups are resistant to house-rule comps.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Are fyreslayers good? Maybe the people in my store have been playing them wrong but I'm yet to see them win a game

Fyreslayers are middle-of-the-road imo. Like many factions their line troops cost a bit more than they are worth while their characters and monsters cost a bit less. To a new player I would recommend starting with either a Warrior Kinband or Forge Breathren battalion (either one nets you the leader and battleline requirements straight off), add a battlesmith (who is very well priced for what he does) and build from there.

They can't be that bad

A few things with the dispossessed first bugman + rangers is usually an auto add. they have good artillery check out the flame cannon.

a 1k list id probably run is

Dwarf lord on shield bearers
rune lord
bugman

warriors x 10 great weapons and shields
warriors x 10 great weapons and shields

Quarrelers x 20

iron drakes x 10 with the leader holding a drakes cannon (d3 wounds again normal stuff d6 wounds against monsters for the drake cannon)

game plan is pretty straight forward warriors are your cannon fodder/ line holders

drakes assist the warriors as they can double tape if they don't move they hit on 3+ wound on 3+ and with the rune lord to support your looking at rend -2 or the drake cannon rend -3

bugman and the quarreler units pops out where needed any where on the board 9" away from enemy and shoot 40 shots into what ever you need dead

Lords ability to give +1 wound to a specific unit for all shooting and combat is pretty huge.

I'm not saying they are top tier there are many armies much easier to use but they can still hold their own.
