I have a question regarding battalions, I've looked and its probably a simple answer but I cannot find it.

To gain the bonuses of a battalion you have to complete the unit requirements.

For an example say these are the requirements

- warboss

-grots x2

-squigs

-fanatics 1-3

----

The above say, is a single battalion that say comes to around 500pts.
I want to play a 1000pt game and include this battalion. Do I just tack on things I want only they don't receive the bonuses of the Battalion? Or would adding on units completely disregard the battalion? Keeping in mind I'm actively paying points to receive the bonuses of said Battalion I can't for the life of me find the ruling that explains how you expand on a battalion.

Units in your army that are not part of the battalion do not receive benefits, but they do not invalidate the battalion either. The only way to expand on what is actually in the battalion is to increase the size of the component units.

Okay thank gawd.
I was worried that it worked like 40K detachments in that once you have fulfilled a detachments requirements you have to start an entirely new detachment / combined arms to include anything else.

The battalion is indeed like a formation in 40K (i.e., required units, bonuses for the units in the battalion, etc.).

Yeah but in 40K you cant have a formation that is say 3 librarians, and then just add on 2 units of marines and still have it as a legal list. You would be required to take the formation of 3 librarians and then if you wanted 2 units of marines youd have to run a seperate combined arms detachment tacking on another HQ before you could have them.

Again, the battalion is like a formation not your entire army.

I think you guys are on separate pages. Not sure how 40k works, but units in an AoS battalion still fill minimum requirements for leader, battleline, etc. And other units can be added freely outside of it (within the normal restrictions of course).

Only stuff part of the battalion gets the bonus obviously.
having said that: my sylvaneth wargroves allow ANY other sylvaneth model to be part of the battalion as long as you first get the required units.

the picture before the last with the wargroves: Difficult to read but the last line says: "any number of additional Sylvaneth units."
