Have someone found an interesting (or the intended) use for the mark of Khorne ability of the Manticore Lord (6" pile in)? Other units that have extended pile in move can either move towards a model that is not the closest one or can benefit from it when wielded in large numbers so more of them can make it into the fight(bloodletters). I mean, he must still be within 3 inches to be able to pile in and the pile in must still be towards the closest model. The only use I can think of is running him behind a line of troops, so he is still in 3" of the enemy, but out of reach to be selected as a target for a pile in/attack and then. When his turn comes he hops out, flies over his warriors and piles in. The thing is I can't see even this happening easily enough - he would either have to strike first, exposing himself to the enemy (if he can even fit in there with his large base) or wont be able to reach the closest model at all when the two front line units close in for the fight. I guess I'm too shortsighted to see the usage of this ability. Is there anyone with any experience fielding him?

Well, when you select him to pile in you determine the closest enemy model. At the end of his pile in he has to be closer to that model than when he started. Within that, there is a lot of variability in what he can do, such as jumping around to the other side of the enemy model or shimmying down a troop line. But mostly the mark of Khorne gives him the keyword that he can use to be buffed by various Khorne effects.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Which considering Bloodbound, Slaves to Darkness, and Khorne Daemons is actually one of the highest amount of general synergy buffs in the game.

Aha, so it's mostly for buff synergies and assaulting single/double rank, small base units. To be honest I was expecting someone would've found a more clever use, but alas :/
