While I was creating my non-codex Chapter's motor pool logistics, I look at my copy of Imperial Armor 2: Second Edition to see what vehicles I wanted to add to my army from Forgeworld in the future. As I was looking at the Typhon and the Thunderhawk Transporter I noticed that the Thunderhawk Transporter can carry "two Rhino-sized vehicles, or one Land Raider-sized vehicle (including a Spartan but not a Cerberus or Typhon)." I then searched the internet to find out what ships the Space Marines have in the post-heresy era, and found nothing larger than the Thunderhawk as a way to deliver Space Marines onto the ground from their battle barges and other space-faring ships. So this begs the question, how do Chapters get their superheavy vehicles onto the ground to wage war with them?

avoiding the lorax on Crion

in the Hersey and times past id say a storm bird.

however with current they would need some kind of modified heavy lift Thunderhawk above a trasnporter..

just a guess as ive not seen modern fluff for use of such hardware by marines.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

I imagine the STC ones are probably deployable via the awfully named: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Space_Marine_Landing_Craft
Which is canonically stated as being able to carry six Rhino-based vehicles or four Land Raiders - so I figure it'd be able to handle 2-3 Spartans or a single Fellblade.

Otherwise I imagine they'd be landed by large non-combatant cargo shuttles (which I imagine every Astartes vessels has for ferrying supplies back and forth).

Very Large Drop Pods (VLDPs).

Because nothing is more hard-core than shooting tanks at a planet in rocket-powered buckets.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Generally speaking those SHVs are extremely rare, only a handful of Legion Chapters such as the Iron Hands and Ultramarines would have one or two, and they probably have their own dedicated landing shuttle that just isn't mentioned anywhere because its so specialised.
