Hi, I'm thinking on adding some Deathwatch to my Space Wolves army. I wanted to make a themed ally around an inquisitor leading them. My idea was to put them in a droppod but the new FAQ says that Battle Brothers can't start in a friendly transport. However the rule book says that Independent Characters can start in transports with the squad that bought it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The FAQ needs some clarification for how they want the rule to work. RAW is unclear but it can easily be interpreted that you couldn't even embark on your own faction's transports if they are a part of another detachment (For example a unit of Ork boyz trying to start the game inside an Ork Blitz Brigade Battlewagon). They are two detachments and by the allies matrix Orks are battle brothers with Orks.

I believe the RAI is that different faction units cannot state in different faction transports so if this was the case then you couldn't put a Deathwatch IC inside a Space Wolf Pod.

Vankraken, the Allies Matrix shows the relationship between different factions.

Orks and Orks are the same faction - you are given no permission to refer to the Allies MAtrix to see how they interact.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

I love that idea. My inquisitors used to drop pod pod all the time. But they no longer can

Absolutely correct. Orks aren't Battle Brothers with Orks. They're just both Orks. The Allies Matrix never comes into play. We're only told to refer to the Allies Matrix when DIFFERENT faction units/models are interacting.

This is a weird one. ICs count as part of the squad they joined for all purposes, yet the draft FAQ won't let them start in a BB transport. If there is a sequencing for deploying in reserves, then I guess you could put the IC in the unit first, then put the unit in the transport.
Fluffwise Deathwatch provide a really weird situation. What if the models in question all came from Space Wolves, but now they magically can't deploy in a Space wolf Drop pod?

But as others have pointed out, the Allies Matrix is only ever referred to when "different" factions are interacting. The matrix itself show same faction as BBs because it iw prettier that leaving it blank like the 6th ed matrix.

That's not a fluff issue. A Deathwatch Kill Team coincidentally composed entirely of Space Wolves would still be using a Deathwatch Drop Pod as they deploy from their Deathwatch Battle Barge and embark on their Deathwatch mission.
