Hey,

I'm pretty happy with this one. I designed a few parts, had them 3D printed, and converted the default model more than that. Then it took a week of applying milliput, sanding, adding more bits to the model, applying more milliput...

Here's how it turned out!

There's a lot more info on my blog, about why and how I designed these custom parts, how I had them 3D printed, and what else did I do to convert the model and why.

Hope you like it Can't wait to start painting

Some paint will definitely make the details on your extra pieces much more visible, looking forward to seeing it.

I just realized it's been a while since I posted an update! It's getting very close to being finished. I've been streaming a lot of this work on Twitch, so look around if you're into literally watching paint dry.

Here's a few pics from the last few weeks, many more on my blog:

Wow, really cool. I'm especially fond of the color scheme.

That orange is gorgeous. The Crystal and the portal look amazing. This makes the standard kit look lacking in comparison.

That looks great. First monolith I've seen that actually makes me like the model.

Agreed. This looks amazing and much less like a Lego kit as the original. Great work!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Thanks!

I'm very happy with how it turned out. Modeling those parts took a lot of work and having them printed wasn't exactly cheap, but the risk paid off.

I wish the lower corners - the dark grey parts - had more stuff on them. I have a bunch of sketches inspired by the conversion below (the one that inspired me to pick up a Monolith and make it better). However, no matter what I did, I couldn't make it work for me. I felt like any sketch I made interrupted the calm blue and gray theme that is a big part of my army. I still wish there was something going on there.
