Creating my list for space marines and want to create a list that is both strong and true to the fluff. Or as close as possible, since those are sometimes opposites. One of the rules is I have to use Black Templars Chapter Tactics. They are my favorite chapter and I haven't caved in yet and just play them as counts as. Anyways, time for the list. This is built using ITC format.

CAD
HQ
Chaplain - 90
The Emperor's Champion - 140

Troops
Crusader Squad (Lascannon) w/Rhino - 125
Crusader Squad (8 initiates, 5 Neophytes, Sword Brother with power fist, power weapon) w/LRC - 482

Heavy Support
Relic Sicaran w/ Lascannon Sponsons - 175

Skyhammer Annihilation Force
Assualt Marine Squad w/jump packs - 85
Assault Marine Squad w/jump packs - 85
Devastator Squad 10 man 2 grav cannon/2 Multi-melta w/drop pod - 265
Devastator Squad 10 man 2 grav cannon/2 Multi-melta w/drop pod - 265

Assasssin Detachment
Culexus Assassin - 140

This is 1852. Still two points over. Tell me what you think and suggestions or good experiences you have had playing with Templars. Things that have worked for you etc.

Looks decent, the sicaran is something I'm thinking of adding myself, I lack serious anti tank for my BT.

The only issue with the list could be the lascannon squad in a rhino, could potentially swap that out for a special weapon instead, that way you'd be able to move out of it and shoot, thats how I usually run shooty Templar armies with multiple squads with special weapons in Rhinos as you can move and shoot.

The other crusader squad I'm assuming has CCW? Them with a chaplain in a LRC can be very killy (my personal favourite unit within BT)

Not used the skyhammer force but looks decent, maybe to get more bodies in the CAD drop the 10 man dev squads down to five?

Accept any challenge, No matter the odds

The Sword Brother in the LRC squad may have trouble connecting with his Power Fist in case he gets challenged, I think he could be killed at higher Initiative by an enemy character. Might be better off putting the PF on the Chaplain as he can survive more easily with his Rosarius (4+ invuln.) A

For the Devastator Squads I assume the idea is to Combat Squad them and then shoot the Meltas at one thing and the Grav at another? Might want to try making them 4-of and 4-of in case it makes it easier to land the Melta pod near tanks and the Grav pod near TEQ or whatever.

One other thing you might want to consider is adding some Plasma, you can trigger Righteous Zeal if your gunner dies as a result of Gets Hot!

I feel like there could be some merit to multiple LRC squads perhaps, and min-maxed crusader squads in a pod or something?... could they take a grav, combi-grav and grav cannon at 5-man? Maybe dropping down a couple of those would pull some hate off of the advancing LRC squads? Also, and I'd have to figure out he points, but maybe you could also get another pod on the drop with a cc threat like an Ironclad, or better yet, Siege Dread/Leviathan to help turn 1?

It's a real shame they can't swap Crusader Sqauds in for Tac Squads to form a demi company, battle company, etc.

Just thinking of something right now that is probably close to 1850, what about this?

CAD

Chaplain
Crusader Squad - LRC, melta, power axe, power axe, cc weapons on as many initiates and neophytes as you can get

Chaplain
Crusader Squad - LRC, melta, power axe, power axe, cc weapons on as many initiates and neophytes as you can get

Crusader Squad (5) - pod, melta, combi-melta

Centurion Devs (3) - grav x3, omni-scope
Drop Pod

Relic Leviathan Dread - lucious pod, drill, cyclone melta cannon

3 pods, so 2 on the drop... gives your opponent something to worry about while your LRC's flat out up the field to ob sec an objective for some points, or get in their face delivering an anti-horde and MSU punch.

The emperors champion will also be rolling with the squad. He will be taking any challenges, whether I want it or not. The crusader squad in the rhino is for back field objective holding. They can park on one and plink away. I can look into switching it to a melta or grav gun.

The skyhammer is a good formation, and I want to keep 10 man dev squads to maximize the pinning bonuses. Not having much experience fielding the skyhammer, I am very worried about my tau matchup. How do other sky hammer armies deal with it? Do you no combat squad to try to have enough bodies before you lose the grav cannons?

I could look into cutting something to fit another pod with a dread or a crusader/sternguard/whatever. The leviathan dread sounds super cool, but it's really expensive and I question its value.

Based on some of my previous expirience - i stopped to play with the crusader squad in LRC, as it gave not much performace, unfortunately. Those guys just used to work as EC additional wounds. I took honour guard instead. packed it with chaplain and EC in LRC, added an ordo xenos inquisitor with rad grenades and it is really good squad for killing everything, except, maybe, necron royal court. you can take a power mauls for all of the HG and there will be the maelstorm of instant death to any T4 enemy unit and EC will kill any SM hero with instant death too. also this squad can survive a lot, only if you keep up them from ap 2 tanks and weapons. Banner for +1A to everyone for 25 points is good too. Other than it i use some droppods to keep up the enemy occupied while my LRC is coming for them.
