Toying around with the Idea of running a 5 man unit to put the herald and karnak in. If running a grimoire and fate, would they be worth the points or are they just too easy to kill for their points investment.

Would also be running a D thirster and all the hounds i can fit into 1850

There is no reason to make a little death star out of crushers over flesh hounds. Flesh Hounds are twice as durable, just as fast but also with fleet, and they have almost the same damage output (flesh hounds actually have more against GEQ units and other fragile units). The only reason to take Bloodcrushers is for their power swords but if you are attaching a herald anyway then you already have all the ap2 you need and have no reason for bloodcrushers anymore.

All Beasts & Cavalry have Fleet. And have since 6th ed, maybe even 5th but my memory doesn't stretch that far

But yeah, you're better off with an all Flesh Hound Murderhorde. Take a unit of 16+ for the Herald, then take 7 units of 5 Hounds

Crushers can take an icon and gain scout with Karanak for the sake of accurately deepstriking Khorne units deep into the enemy DZ turn 2, but that's about the only reason that you'd want them over hounds. Works well for grinders and occasionally 'letters. They [crushers] can have a character with access to AP2 on their own anyway even without the herald though, so technically it lets you either put the herald in another unit and have multiple AP2 threats, or have a second model in the unit who can't get bogged down in a challenge and attack the unit directly. That's about the extent of their uses unfortunately (other than looking awesome IMHO). Much better when brought in via incursion where they're free, and I often prefer them over screamers.
