So my brother has got a vortex beast and every game we play I get absolutely destroyed.

He brings it, it runs up the board surrounded by Chaos Warriors and Warshrines and just turns my zombies into spawn.

I can't touch it because he has this entire battleline to get through first, and for some reason he hasn't rolled anything besides a 6 in three games!

Everytime he does its a bit annoying and I just can't touch it, so what can I do to help mitigate its influence? Maybe take less hordes or more mortal wound support/survivability?

I have majority of the Death Grand alliance at my fingetipes

I'd be more concerned about why it keeps getting 6s... Are you using matched play? If so, he has to pay points for the spawn he summons. If not, consider summoning some models with decent saves, since those models you listed have trouble putting out rending attacks.

can I please have a rules citation? Im just curious (and too broke to afford a GH haha)

New units via abilities or summons require paying for.

At the start of the game you assign some of your list points as reserve points.
These can be used to summon or for abilities to bring in new units while the game is going.
