Random request:

I've been looking for ages for a somewhat "natural" color scheme for my Tyranids. I'd prefer darker colors, nothing outlandish, that will contrast with bright eyes and glowy-bits, but also still flowing well with regular bone-colored claws and teeth, as I'm not a huge fan of other "types" of bone, for lack of a better term. I'd like the skin and carapace to be similar in color, like deep blue and black, for example, although I don't want that combination. My only other restriction, however, is I want to avoid the colors of the rest of my armies...which are quite a few. I have grey Tau, my custom Renegade Marines are black, my Orks are primarily red, and my Chaos is mostly Nurgle backed by Khorne...basically something that other armies wouldn't have, if that makes sense. I'm still playing with online Tyranid painters, so perhaps I will stumble across something before reading a suggested solution, but I doubt it...my Tyranids are my babies and I want to be happy with the scheme.

Help

You could use beetle colors.

I would say paint the up with a real dark teal color, wash in nuln oil to darken them even farther.

Wash with this... https://www.walmart.com/ip/Liquitex-Iridescent-Acrylic-Fluid-Medium-8-oz/24419234?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=1453&adid=22222222227017589073&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40941914912&wl4=pla-78880328432&wl5=9033511&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=112550049&wl11=online&wl12=24419234&wl13=&veh=sem

Which being a medium should be clear except it has the iridescent quality to it, which should give the shell the same property. Top coat in gloss.

Actually.. the more I look at that last link I think I am going to try to experiment with something like that myself.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Yeah, rummage through some real-world insect pics, you should find something you like and that contrasts nicely with the non-realistic glowing eyes etc.

Agis had a supremely cool blended, creepy Alien he showed off a while ago --- fleshy mixed with the black/shiny carapace from Aliens. Could look pretty darn cool on a Tyranid.

People have said my Tyranids have a very natural feel to them.

I think the key to natural is to avoid colors that are rarer in nature - focus on browns, tans, etc.

Very nice! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for ideas, everyone. I've been contemplating it and kind of want to go for an underground-life form kind of scheme, so the insect and real-life color schemes will most likely be my line of experimentation.
