What are going to paint the bases?

I would do something to the bases because like this it's overwhelmingly red. Pics aren't very clear but the minis seem to have a very glossy effect, so I'd give them a spray or two of matte as well.

Pretty clear that the red/gore on the bases is intentional and I kinda like it. I do agree that something needs to be added to the bases to contrast the red. If it were me, I would take a few wrecked skeleton or human models and bits, carefully cut them up into identifiable pieces, paint them up and then hit them with SOME gore paint.

Having said this, it would be quite difficult to add at this stage.

Edging the bases in a contrasting color would go a long way too.

I wondered if it was intentional. To me, I think it completely ruins the look, particularly when placed on a gaming surface which is anything other than a mass of red ichor. But I hate 95% of modern popular basing trends.

I am picturing these guys on a green/grassy board...hopping around, dragging huge comical puddles of blood with them. It would completely ruin the look of the unit/table for me. If the OP wants blood though...go for it!

To me a base is part of the table and not part of the miniature (from a visual perspective).

You got some really intense blues, especially on the eyes of some of the skull helms... how did you achieve that?

The bases are intentional and recurring for the whole army project (take a look at his gallery).
The bases come up as problematic in every new thread, but apparently they are just the way he want them.

All in all, I like the glossy reds, but would have wanted some more variation or contrasting elements (like bone white helmets just to break up the glossy red).

Thanks a lot for the comments guys I thought this topic was dead.
I do agree I need more contrast in the color scheme I started adding blue to my army and it brings up a lot of good looks. I've tried bone white but I am quite bad at painting it I will be giving it another try with my new flesh hounds once they arrive. Also I kind of like skulls to be grey but that is mostly because I am quite bad at painting lighter colors.

The blue is done by putting around the whole area Macragge blue, Then putting in the middle Teclis blue and then just putting a dot or in the skull helm putting a single touch on the raised part with white scar.
After it is all dried up I put Guilliman blue in the whole area.
Sometimes I put a whole pool on it wait for couple of seconds take some out with my brush wait a bit more and if needed add some again to get the effect I want.

About the bases I really may need to start adding something else on them but it is a very big army if I start to rebase them all a lot of things will need rebasing, maybe I can start by adding some skulls on the bases this will give some contrast but this is for another time.
Problem is I still have 20 more flesh hounds and 20 more cultists and when thinking about the bases of the other like 100 models it just feels disheartening. But I do agree the bases are kind of a waste and I really need to take them up a notch

Sounds simple, thanks for the tip on the add/remove technique!

Try a different background for taking the pictures - we can't see much detail. The brass and rivets look cleanly painted

How are you going to finish off the bases? Desert or an urban? Possibly something to offset the deep red. Honestly the basic light brown with some static grass would brighten things up.
