Hey Dakka!

I'm looking to get myself a few of the Horus Heresy Rapier Batteries (3 Quad Mortars for me Iron Warriors to be exact), but that is quite the price point. The most important part are probably the treads, which I think could be replaced with the tread sections on the Ad Mech Kataphron and maybe a few other bits.

What do people think? is there a good size comparison around, or any advice on other bits for the Quad Mortar and shield portion?

The Quad Mortar could be made from rocket launchers, particularly the longer IG ones. Get a few from some sites, trim them down a bit and glue them in 4's.

Bood & Skulls produces their Butcher/Quad Cannons. You'll need to create a mount for it, as well as a breech assembly.

The butcher would be an excellent idea.

And probably butts cheaper.

I picked up an Icarus storm cannon from a storm hawk among a bunch of bits and it seems like a good stand in for a quad mortar (even though it only has 3 tubes?). Making a mount to attach it to the platform would be easy enough.

Ah ok, so its a little bit smaller than the Rapier treads, and I think I'd turn the Kataphron "around" so the structure of the treads is similar, but it doesn't look like it'd be a massive difference, building up the platform and connection between the base and the mortars to compensate a little...
