I have attempted my first use of object source lighting and I am interested in any feedback about the effect achieved so far. Apologies about the image but I do not know how to rotate it.

You have the basis right, it looks like a strong light from the top right, but the colour and ambience is wrong. You've done a very strong lighting effect sharply in white, while a torch would give a soft organge/warm yellow light

Thanks for the feedback. It is an interesting point and one I considered. Looking at tutorials around the web the suggestion was that the key to the lighting effect was light and not necessarily colour. I am inclined to agree with you though that i could add some warmer areas of light to be more suggestive of a torch flame.

I suggest a harder shadow around his feet too, to make it pop.

While I agree it should be a bit "warmer" I'm so happy to see some properly painted lighting which isn't 'I blasted this with an airbrush...that's lighting!'.
