Hello Dakka Dakka,

Can somebody please help me find a proper thread?

Im about to move in with my girlfriend, and our space is going to be limited. When I lived alone, I had a relatively large office where I had a desk for my work stuff, and small desk for painting my 40k miniatures. But now that were moving in, we will both need office space and I don't think I will have room for a dedicated hobby table. Does anyone know of a tutorial or a showcase of a mobile / portable painting / modeling station?

Here is what I need: I need to be able to keep my paints there. I usually buy GW paint or P3 paint. I need to keep my paintbrushes, and water cups. I would also like to keep a few WIP miniatures. I will occasionally do conversions with plasticard and greenstuff, so having a place to store some tools and some plastic would be good too.

Im envisioning that I will keep the mobile painting station in the closet or somewhere under my desk. It would also be kind of cool to be able to take it to a gameshop and paint with people there.

If anyone has seen a thread or has a set up like that, please let me know!

Thanks so much!

I haven't lurked around very long so I can't say I've seen a thread.
But remember one thing: Google is your friend ---> https://www.google.no/search?q=portable+model+paint+station&espv=2&biw=1280&bih=918&tbm=isch&imgil=3TT-b_nDxLEfKM%253A%253ByXTCW8ub_x8-qM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.youtube.com%25252Fwatch%25253Fv%2525253DFFHHXnvM1HM&source=iu&pf=m&fir=3TT-b_nDxLEfKM%253A%252CyXTCW8ub_x8-qM%252C_&usg=__32DKOFJ3zyFLoABYG2vNSaN63PI%3D&ved=0ahUKEwjBtbXB_-PPAhWGGCwKHZ8SBcoQyjcIJw&ei=b-UFWIHCMYaxsAGfpZTQDA#imgrc=_

Hope it helps a little.

I actually bought a tray from Target... its about an inch and a half deep so stuff shouldn't slide/roll off.

I haven't used it yet because I'm still trying to get used to the idea of not having a 'work space' anymore. I used to work in a small space on an older desk but once I got a bigger apartment and actually had room to set up a dedicated area its been hard for me to go back to painting on maybe 18in x 24in (or similar sized) area.

When I do plan to use it (most likely for painting; I have a bunch of primed stuff that's been waiting for some acrylic), I probably will just have on it maybe a unit I'm working on, and a couple colors for whatever part on the unit I'm painting, water, and palette. and when not in use everything will just go in the container I use.

I use one of these:

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Citadel-Project-Box

as my mobile station. Won't hold the taller kinds of paint too easy and has limited space for plasticard but otherwise I find it fantastic.

Holds a big tray of citadel paints and has plenty of room for minis, WiP, tools and brushes. If you use a shortish pot for your water that'll fit too.

I just use one of these with some cuts between compartments to fit brushes and stuff in it well. It was ten bucks and works fine. I would rather spend money on paints and models. I find it is hard to find a case that will fit any paint bottle I want right side up, but this one does. When I go to my local shop I just borrow a scrap of cardboard form their last shipment and a waterbottle from the recycling bin and I am ready to go.

Here's a relatively new kickstarter with a neat design:

Yeah I got one of these too as a chrimbo present from the Mrs.

I actually find it rather useful and the tray that clips down as a lid helps keep prying little fingers out too.

Also (thus far) cat proof. My kitten has a habit of nicking things and he hasn't yet found his way in.
