I was rewriting the game for fun and whilst working on CSM got a problem.
Can't find any official background to insert on the page with Chaos space marine troops/core unit.
The background in the current codex is about the faction in general, and KDK codex only has background for Khorne worshippers.
The background on gw site for the box tells that they are backbone of army that uses bolters, melta and plasma, but is too short.

I mean, something like 'Where an objective must be seized, Tactical squads attack in a storm of gunfire and combat blades... Tactical Squads are superbly versatile startegic assets...' but for CSM.

So this topic is for discussion on Chaos Space Marine Basic Squad Background (or lack of it).

They sold their souls to chaos, or are just renegades in general. Most CSM are either doing what they do out of spite, or are aspiring to become something more. CSM squads are out to make everyone else suffer in general. Their role in the field is pretty similar, but they really like getting in close and doing damage on a more personal level, where their acts can get more attention.

The unit 'Chaos Space Marines' to me means 'power armoured space marines in a chaos army that are too generic or obscure to fit under any of the other more funky unit categories'.

There is no faction more varied than Chaos
There is no army more varied than Chaos Space Marines

With all the warbands, legions, renegade chapters, and newly created genetic experiments all falling under the label of CSM who knows what they are like, how they fight, or what role they fulfill on the battlefield.

I recommend reading the Night Lords Omnibus. Exergy has the gist of it.

My favorite Night Lord Fluff is where they do not worship chaos. Where they are just vaguely evil supermen who are not bound by any code or creed and do whatever they want, when they want, for their own sick pleasure.

Thanks for your advices. I've read both, and Word Bearers books are what made me pure Chaos fanatic. Also like Iron warriors/Ultramarines books about Hon'sou.
I'll try to take a couple of sentences from here and there to make some fluff for csm unit entry in my book.
