Not sure if this is the right place or not...

Anyway, I have really been digging the recent run of small scale games. Dark Vengeance, Kill Team, Horus Heresy, and even been doing a quite a bit combat patrol!

Anyway, the problem I feel like I am facing now is what to do with all the partial armies I have of Chaos, Tau and Nids?!?! I rarely play anything over 1000 points anymore and I was thinking of fleshing these armies out to that point. The problem is I dont know what models I should get? I am not looking for any list building advice, just what models I should pick up to take these alternate armies to 1000 points.

I suppose even with my Marines I should look at what else I should get, I only have some drop pods and two Storm Talons in addition to the numerous tac/dev/ass/stern/van units I have. Should I be looking at any rhinos? Bikes?

For SM (And Chaos Marines) Rhinos are a classic. But instead of just buying Rhinos, get something more interesting that can be multiple units. A Predator kit can be a Predator, a Rhino, or a Razorback stand-in with a Twin-linked Lascannon. A little forethought in purchasing can give you lots of options down the line.

For Tau, I couldn't say. I think it depends on what you already have.

For Nids? Always more Gaunts!

If you are full drop right now for your marines, getting some rhino hulls to go hybrid-drop is not a bad idea. The more tools you have in the box, the more types of lists you can play. One of the nice things about SMs is the wide variety of ways to field them.

Some more generic advice:

Pick up units you like the look of. Sometimes fielding the awesome thing is more important then the effective thing. YMMV depending how competitive your local meta is. Are there fluff milestones you’d like to reach? Like owning a full 107 marine + vehicles battle company.

Look at formations, and how your current collection fits into them. Are you close to being able to field any? Sometimes adding just one more <fill in blank> is enough to trigger fun rules and deployment options.

Is you collection balanced? Do you have gaps that need filling? What troubles you on the battlefield, and why do you loose games? It might be worth picking up some more AV firepower, a decent AA unit, some horde-busters, etc.

If you're not looking for list building advice, then about the only thing that we can tell you is to pick up stuff that you think looks cool (which is a totally legit, if tactically unsound) way of building up your forces. Obvious preference goes to models you can use in the types of games that you already play. No point telling you to get some obliterators if you play mostly kill team and horus heresy (though how you play HH under 1k I have no idea).
